Accrington Observer on the ball?
had the misfortune to purchase this morning, perusing through i came across "NIGHTLIFE" yeh know the page they publish photos of folk enjoying a night in a local pub, this week was Duke Of Wellington Abbey Street, one lucky guy was circled who has won a prize courtesy of the venue, it says, this will be difficult to my mind, as this pub has been closed fer a couple of years.

Re: Accrington Observer on the ball?
It might appear to be closed...but you never know...it might be a secret drinking club for Councillor Britcliffe, VC, MC and Hyndburn Medal of Honour (with two bars) and his cronies.

Re: Accrington Observer on the ball?
I thought their front page today was a masterpiece in recycling last months news. People have known for ages that funding for PCSOs and schools in Hyndburn had been axed. Just lazy to tell us that we're in a recession as though we didnt know.. Two reporters names on it as well!!

Re: Accrington Observer on the ball?
Every other month I send in details of the forthcoming Parkinson's disease support meet, in Accy Town Hall, and ask nicely if it could be included in the What's On section.
Book clubs, ladies groups, bring and buys, all seem fine, just not a charitable support group, which benefits many people in the area. I think they've printed the details twice, in the last two years. I won't be bothering in future. There are other ways we can publish the details of the meetings. Many with easier ways of reaching more people, than your dwindling circulation figures would allow us to. I also won't bother buying it anymore. I might glance at a family member's copy, when it's given to me third hand. For old times sake. Rest in peace Accrington Observer, a once great, and much loved local newspaper. What we're left with in it's place, is quite frankly, and literally, rubbish. |
Re: Accrington Observer on the ball?
G you should never read it for sentimental or old times sake if it dosnt cut the mustard. Consign it to the recycle bin then it can be used for something more useful.
As for R.I.P it died years ago and is now an extension of wanabe Ruppy Murdoch's empire with all the useless behind the times reporting. Well apart from the footy of course. :D |

Puts the Washington Post to shame. Could be up for a Pullitzer Prize. If that doesn't get it, my money's on the four page pull-out Baby Pet Glasses Wearer of the Year Prom Special. |
Re: Accrington Observer on the ball?
Be interesting to see how the paper reports the effect the opening of the new Tesco has on the town, and it's already frightened businesses community.
What with them running a competition giving away £200 quids worth of vouchers from Tescos, for suggestions of which 'hero' we think should attend the opening. My entry would be for whoever passed the plans, without first rubber-stamping a binding guarantee on how many jobs they said would be created. |
