The truly obscene amounts of money that New Labour committed us to spend on the Olympics Jamboree take some justifying, just be grateful that we don't have to fork out for the World Cup as well. Austerity, what austerity?

everyone i know planned everything around this drivel so as to avoid it lol

did anyone watch dappy's christmas speech on the other side?Personaly i dont care what either of them has to say but at least there was a choice this year.

i would watch teh speech if prince philip was doing it ,now that woudl be intersting :D

One of the most irritating sights in this country is the horrible, fawning obsequiousness that some people show towards the royal family. It comes to the fore when weddings are announced and at Christmas. Did you see those idiots standing in the snow outside Sandringham yesterday?

The worst of the worst examples of this is that donut Nicholas Witchell, the BBCs "Royal Correspondent". He makes you want to throw up.

Whoa ! Bit sharp isn't it ? Lets have a little balance in all things Gynn, would you say the same about the following ? No Worse than standing outside an arena for hours on end to get tickets for some produced "Pop star" who'll disappear up their own hoop within a couple of years.

The "SciFi Geeks" & the "Potter fans" who'll queue for days on end in all kinds of weather just for the latest Book or Film to be released. Even footie fans who'll traipse round the Country or World for that matter following their team.

All these are personal choices that these people have made themselves because it is something that appeals to them & as long as you're not forced to follow in their shadow where's the problem ? Believe me I'm not a raging Royalist, the Royal Family are just another aspect of the British way of life, take them or leave them. Queens Speech ? Turn over or switch it off. I personally can't stand all these "Reality shows", "Make me famous" or "Soaps" for that matter but I wouldn't call folk who do that is their choice & the last time I looked freedom of choice was still one of the things the UK Governments hadn't fully managed to outlaw or abolish. ;)

we should be showing grattitude because the royal wedding will help bring us out of this recession or so they tell us lol.When they came out with that tripe it reminded me of bill and ted bringing about world peace with air guitars pmsl.Neither are likely to happen in reality :)

Actually I think the monarchy as an institution has a lot going for it. I liked the stability that it brought into the constitution during the uncertainty after the election in May.

I just find it annoying the way the personalities are turned into a soap opera.

Well I'd sooner have a king or queen than say a Tony Blair as president;)

I wanted to point out that the queen is treating us with the same disdain/contempt that Roman emperors felt for the mobs in the Colosseum.
.......or today's equivalent - the TV couch potatoes, the football crowds,"all will be fine if they are kept amused" :rolleyes:

get rid off this family of sponging wasters,and make this country a republic,and we vote in who we want every 4 years like the usa,if it dont work lets change it,the civil list is just a waste on our resorses as most off them sit on there backsides, when hrh dies the royal family should die with them,and who will be paying for wills and kates wedding, US the british taxpayer SHOOT THEM ALL NOW
