Just what is going on

This morning I had my usual fortnightly visit from the Community Matron, blood tests ect. I also mention about some equipment which I no longer require, and ask could she arrange for them to be collected, she phoned up. I couldn't believe the answer she got, it appears that this equipment is no longer recycled and that the items become the property of the user:eek::eek::eek: WHY. I have a foot stool and a bed back rest which are in perfect working order, in the past these things have been returned sterilised and reused, but of course in this age of plenty we don't do this any more, just wonder which bird brain came up with that idea. Its not as if they are cheap either I think that both items are in the catalogue at over £40 each.

After giving this matter a little though I've decided not to let this lay, the only thing I have to decide is how to go about it. Do I write the the Secretary of State for Health and voice my concerns or do I contact my MP, after playing about with the idea, I've decided option 2, I actually think I might get a better result that way, so Graham I will be endeavoring to contact you in the next couple of days, just not up to it at the moment.

Throw away society, we used to be asked for washed medicine bottles to keep the price down, now for fear of what could have been in those bottles they are no longer wanted.
The same seems to be happening with all other equipment.

Seriously, it'll be interesting to know the reasoning.

Most of us have been more than grateful for things in the past, that have been given to us, that had had previous owners.

I recently returned some unused medical equipment, and the nurse was very happy to restock them.

The thing that bothers me is the sheer volume of this equipment out there G. the matron actually said so that's why you see plenty of these things on car boot sales.

I've been given things, to open jars, fasten buttons etc., but was told they were only loaned to me.

If they find a cure for Parkinson's, or I pop my clogs, I just presumed they were given back, and someone else would benefit.

I hate waste.

I couldn't give two hoots if my jar opener had been used by someone else, before me. It still works.

If the powers that be were a housekeeper, in charge of a household, rather than a country, they'd be sacked for being a bad manager.

Why don't you contact them both, write to Graham (our MP) but send a copy of the letter to Secretary of State for Health (think it's Andrew Lansley).

When mum died they came and picked everything up .. and even tried taking something that we'd bought ...

I have stuff here that ive been given to try to make it safer for me ... but i would have thought they'd have took them back .. if i didnt use them or if i didnt need them anymore.

Is the Community Matron, the person you told, working for whoever gave you the things you no longer need?

Was it from medical, rather than social services.

My handy loaned gadgets came from an occupational therapist.

Just a thought.

She might have said that, not knowing there'd be a need for them still...hopefully.
