Re: The Tories

The Tories are in effect a 'Zombie' party. They seem alive but are in fact dying from within.

The average age of a Conservative Party member is about 65. There is no fresh blood coming through in either the parliamentary party or in constituencies. The Young Conservatives, Conservative Students and Conservative Graduates bodies were all merged into obscurity in the late 1990s. The fact that they did not manage to gain an overall majority at the last election showed that they do not have popular support nationally.

As it stands they need a massive lead in the polls to even gain a slight majority and it just isn't happening. Problem is, they haven't renewed themselves like Labour did in the 80s and 90s. Even Tory activists were told by Theresa May at their annual conference that they were perceived as “the nasty party". They still haven't been detoxified.

Maybe now they are in power and get to know what is really going on with MI5 they are worried about what harm not having this power could do to the country.

I don't recall the stats but I recall that the Police have used Anti-terrorism laws on many occasions and not turned up any evidence - the issue is, they use them when they don't need to. So they can stop people under the excuse of terrorism and they do - this is fact! They can stop and search anybody under the excuse of terrorism and many people using camera's have been stopped and searched under this pretence!

"Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty, said the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats had resisted greater surveillance powers when in opposition. "This is more ambitious than anything that has been done before," she told Sky News's Dermot Murnaghan. "The Coalition bound itself together in the language of civil liberties. Do they still mean it?"
SECURITY THEN AND NOW
June 2009: "Today we are in danger of living in a control state. Every month over 1,000 surveillance operations are carried out. The tentacles of the state can even rifle through your bins for juicy information." David Cameron
April 2012: "It is vital that police and security services are able to obtain communications data in certain circumstances to investigate serious crime and terrorism and to protect the public." Home Office spokesman"

For all we know an e-mail just mentioning the word Terrorism (regardless of context) may lead to the senders activities being monitored!

Most of those people with cameras I have seen on youtube that get searched are doing it on purpose to wind the police up though.

They are a few, some are tourists, and a few have been professional photographers with white skin! The Police were told to ease off when the Tories first got in, it mainly occured in the last years of Gordon Browns reign as the PM!

To be serious though, to me any measure taken which is likely to avoid another 7/7 occurring is fine, I hardly thing the security service will be that interested in a photograph of my grandson playing his new drum kit he got for his birthday. There will be specific targets and key words, which trigger investigation, besides that I've got nout hide so feel free, if you've done nout wrong there's nothing to fear.

Are they training them to use whitewash as well? :) All politicians are good whitewashers - regardless of their persuasion!
