Re: Earthquake

Son has been working away near Parma this week preparing some show cows for the European Dairy Show in Verona next week. Says he was terrified -all the cows suddenly went berserk and they heard an almighty booming noise and everything was shaking. He was just a few Km from the Epicenter.

Apparently the Italian Stock Exchange was evacuated in Milan and many other buildings in towns across N.Italy. No serious damage or injuries but they are warning we may have more in the coming weeks as the Adriatic plate is on the move!

We had a 4.7 quake here four years ago.

When we were in Iceland a few years ago we went to a place where you could actually see that the two plates that run through the island were separating. There was a large gap between two outcrops of rock that was getting wider all the time - but slowly.

This was the place the Icelanders chose to hold their first parliamemt gathering to recite the laws a thousand years ago because the acoustics were so good thanks to the rocky outcrops.

Iceland is so fascinating because you can really see geology in the making everywhere - tectonic plates, glaciers, geysers, hot springs, the lot - and a new island, Surtsey, created by a volcanic eruption only recently.

Not one to brag Gordon;)

In our local paper this morning there was an article about damage in Cremona. The Cathedral, Tower, Baptistry and Town Hall have all been given the OK. 3 churches have had to be closed because of structural damage - no problems for the faithful though as there are 25 churches in Cremona!:D
