Re: I'm sick to death with Charities
Water Aid is fast moving up into my number one slot of pet hates in this field. Not because I don't believe they do essential work, but because, when they advertise at such a regular and annoying amount of time on the box, they finish their advert with a statement that whatever I feel I can manage to give them, the U.K Government will double the amount at no extra cost to me.
Well, excuse me but, where exactly does the Government get this cash from? Doesn't it arrive in their coffers as a result of taxes? So why should they (our representatives) give this charity a blank cheque that is costing all taxpayers extra without them being able to decide that the charity is worth contributing to?
If I want to give 1p or 1,000 pounds to a charity that is my choice and my money, to have our taxes used to double my contribution isn't my idea of charity it is forcing everyone else to share in my wish to use my disposable income and their contribution without their permission.
