Today's headliner is that the Mayor, on behalf of all the inhabitants of the Borough of Hyndburn, has sent a message of congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their son.

I hope she remembered to put your name in the card Cashy;)

Well done Judith!

Well done Judith!

Well done! Well Done? So our Mayor has been caught up in the Hype?

The way the town is we need someone that keeps their feet on the ground.

That child will never want for anything, unfortunately around here there are plenty that will.

I think he may want for a quiet life and privacy at some point...

As to children going wanting in Great Britain (I emphasise the "Great" as it is a great place to live especially during a recession) - I don't believe there are any unless they have neglectful parents whom society fails to detect.

There will be some who have less material things than others depending on their circumstances but they should all have access to health-care, education and the basic necessities which are guaranteed under the welfare state.

Judith has her feet firmly on the ground and is extremely conscientious in her Mayoral duties. I read her daily blog and can assure you she takes her position very seriously, dedicating a great deal of her time to the community. :)

Gotta take exception to that one. That's what the right wing want you to believe, every time someone mentions welfare they bring out some drug addled, alcoholic chav as typical of the average person on benefits. This lot have carefully ignored the figures showing that less than 70p in every £100 of benefits are falsely claimed, thats 0.07%.

I could link numerous stories regarding the failing NHS, the lack of trained staff, the unecessary deaths of babies, could also link just what teachers think of the education system and the way they are being forced to follow a curriculum that even a blind man can see will not work, as for basic necessities, seen the growing number of foodbanks recently.

As for neglectful parenting, I'd say sending your kids away to boarding school is fairly neglectful parenting.
