Easter Bunny.
 

Where did he come from?
Who invented him?
Is he American?

I remember watching Charlie Brown/Peanuts in the mid 70's which featured the Easter Bunny, at that time l'd never heard of him. lt seems to quickly have become part of our Easter celebrations. The Vicar of Dibley had a whole village of them, when Lavinia passed away.

Really not sure;I suspect he is American in origin given the commercialisation of Easter.Not being of a religious bent I find it all very confusing,last year I hadto buy Easter cards for potential in-laws!My daughter does not eat/like chocolate and I have had a devil of a job telling people NOT to buy them;get her clothes if you must get anything!Having said that I do at least get a couple of days off work to spend with her!:) ,

He is American. According to an American friend of mine he was taken to the States by the Dutch/German immigrants a couple of centuries ago. They got it from pagan traditions of the fertile hare, Spring etc. - allegedly.

When we lived in Whitby in the 60s a lot of our neighbours were USAF and it was through them I first heard of the Easter Bunny. They really made a big thing of it. It was their kids who I first knew of doing trick or treat at hallowe'en too and that's caught on here now so, no doubt, we'll soon have our own Bunnies.

Me, I'd rather have a Black Magic Easter Egg, thank you (hard centres please - oh and I like After Eight ones too, if anybody's listening, - my address can be obtained). :)

I'm not really that bothered about Easter eggs - I normally let my wife eat most of it.

Do they do Pringle Easter eggs instead?

Do you mean you actually get one? I have dropped hints like NORI bricks every year since the year dot to my kids - and I still don't get any. :(

My kids are too young to buy us eggs, but I am sure they would if they could, and then eat them for us!!!

We tend to buy one for the both of us, then my wife eats it!

Thanks folks, very interesting. l suspected it may have had to do with fertility, you know rabbits/ spring and at it!

Re: Nori bricks, my Dad never really swore, when we'd pushed him too far he'd say 'Bloody Nori', not really swearing as the bricks are red.
He also used to say 'Blood and sand', which l still don't understand!
