What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

What do you think the sentence should be for drink drivers?

I am a driver and have never even thought about jumping in the car after a drink, because it's just around the corner.

I think that drink drivers should get at least 3 years because i class it in the same level as going out with a loaded shotgun.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

Dont drink and drive you'll spill it all over yourself.

I must agree,i think 3 years is about right, people are getting that at the moment for killing someone in a car which is atrocious.
I think causing death by drink or drugs should get life or at least 10 years.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

Anyone today getting into a driving seat of any motor vehicle and driving away is fully aware of what they are doing. By driving a vehicle under the influence of any intoxicating substance should be an instant ban and 1 – 3 years for the offence of being under the influence. Those that kill as a result of their actions should face 20 years to life imprisonment and it should mean 20 years to life. I have already lost one friend as a result of this. She was a 21 year old trained nurse, beautiful and married. The individual who caused her death was banned from driving for 18 months and find £328.00………

agree entirely, drink driving is the most disgusting offence, commited by thoughtless, couldn't care less people, who deserve nothing less than gaol, also they should be banned for life.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

I agree, Clink for 5 years and banned for life. Its not rocket science is it. Have a drink, don't drive.

Same with using mobile phones, 6 months in clink no appeal. If you are using it then you accept the punishment.

That would soon stop it. The problem is no political party has the guts to do it. They talk about zero tolerance but won't put it in practice.

l think drink drivers should face the same sentence as a murderer. Although not premeditated, everyone knows the tragic fatalities that result from it.

A fine for taking a life in this way is risible.

The act of getting in a car after having a few drinks has to be seen as pre-meditated.

There has been so much publicity for so many years in so many different forms, that anyone who gets caught should be locked up, and for killing it should be classed as murder.

Oh, and there are other crimes I can think of that is more disgusting than drink driving (rape/paedophilia)

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

my sons uncle is dead because of a drink driver who is still walking , talking , breathing and still drinking

if you take a life drink driving you should spend the rest of your life in jail rotting and i dont give a crap when people say but they got to live with the guilt for the rest of their lives at least they still have a life

drink driving with no accidents - 5 years

drink driving with an accident but no serious injurys or death - 10 years

drink driving where serious injury or death is caused - life as in never get out of jail

drink drivers usualy are the ones who walk away from accidents and only have to worry about buying a new car which a 2 year driving ban gives them plenty of time to save up for

its about time they made the punishments so severe that people would be affraid to look at a pint before driving

drink drivers kill children too but to be honest i would rather see rapists and peodophiles simply executed rather than waste a jail cell

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

They should make any punishments for crimes more severe.

Prison is no deterrent to the hardened criminal.

harwood red 04-04-2005 11:23

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

I agree with you all, how anyone can even contemplate getting into a car knowing they have been drinking is unthinkable. They should be banned from driving for life with immediate jail term increasing with severity of what they have been caught over the limit, accidents, deaths etc.... Sentencing for this at the mo is nothing more than a joke

chav1 04-04-2005 11:35

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

insurance companies could help by increasing the cost of insurance on convicted drink drivers to 5 times what a non drink driver pays

this may lead to convicted drink drivers not bothering with insurance but yet again we would needn to look at more severe punishment for that as well

trouble with implementing zero tolerance is many mps drink and drive, many come out of the bar in the house of commons and drive- bin there seen it-though that was in the 70s.doubt if its changed that much,

AND ban them from driving for life whatever accident or lack of accident they have. (If you know what I mean) Anyone who can even contemplate getting behind the wheel of a car when drunk should never be allowed to do so again even when sober.

So string them up.

Isn't that what the media is for?

chop their hands and feet off that will cure them of drink driving!!!!! seriously though they should never be allowed behind a wheel ever again,

if punishment was an effective deterrent shouldn't they be empty anyway?

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

The punishment for drink driving should be a lifetime ban.......the confiscation of the vehicle and a prison sentence.
There is just no excuse for driving under the influence.
Adopt the designated driver rule.........and bring the legal blood alcohol limit down to 0.5mg/100mls of blood.... which in truth means no alcohol.

grego 04-04-2005 20:36

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

There's no excuse for drink driving, it is always pre-meditated especially in this day and age where taxi's are a plenty. These people are selfish and should be properly punished, apart from the ban and prison sentance I would like to see them in Stocks outside Accy town Hall where we could all get rid of our rotten friut!

removal-man 04-04-2005 21:36

drink shotguns

why whats the sentance for having a loaded shotgun? should that be 3 years as well?

wayneyboy1942 04-04-2005 21:48

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

I don't like people that drink and drive and anyone that does should get five years in prison, but I have to blame pubs and clubs as well, because the price of soft drinks is disgusting,I bought a pint of lemonade with a splash of lime(not for me!!) and was charged more than I would for a double shot! this I think is wrong and needs to be sorted out by the drinks industy.:(

physicalbabe 04-04-2005 22:06

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

Give them a heavy prison sentence, take away their vehicle and crush it,and banned for life!

I class a drink driver as driving a lethal weapon. I get sick of reading the Observer and seeing the same offenders over and over again.

The law regarding legal blood alcohol limit is not actually in place so that people can have a swift one down the local in their dinner hour or on their way home from work. It's because people differ how long the alcohol remains in their system the day after alcohol consumption and unless you buy 'the morning after' alcohol kit nobody quite knows whether they are still over the limit or not.

I totally agree death caused when over the limit should definately be classed as murder/manslaughter and anybody caught over the limit should have their licence permanently removed!

it amazes me how alcholics can still drive cars shouldnt the doctor revoke their licence just like they do with people with epolepsy etc or do they already get their licence removed and simply drive regardless

WillowTheWhisp 04-04-2005 22:41

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

Most drink drivers aren't medically recognised alcoholics.

cashman 05-04-2005 00:30

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

i have seen cases of banned (drink drivers) getting done a second time for driving while disqualified, and still not going to jail, also if your banned you cannot be insured- how soft is that?

Yes i agree.

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

I would be lethal if i was driving a car, i only need half a can of lager to know i have had a drink. Were as some people can drink a lot more before it affects them. It has to be common sense to ban drinking altogether if you are going to drive.I wonder if i would pass a breathalyzer test after one drink, because i would be under the limit, even if i did feel a little tippsy.

Drink Driving is wrong.

Sara 06-04-2005 17:52

Re: What Do You Think About Drink Driving?

They should get an instant ban for life, vehical removed and crushed and any savings they have in the bank given to a charity. That's just for starters.

But what most people don't realise, is when they get behind the wheel of a car after a night out they will be more than likely over the limit.

Can't stand drink driving.
