There are some jokes on this link to the Daily Mail, from a story on a similar theme.

I agree. Every older person I know has a great sense of humour, as well as the gift of being able to laugh at the misfortune of others.

Re: Grumpy Old Men
The reason the younger generation think we are grumpy is, their sense of humour is infantile and not worth the effort needed laugh, we have earned the right to be 'grumpy' because we have heard it all before. Bernard Manning had it 'dead' right if you'll pardon the pun, his epitaph on tv last night was hilarious.

I also have to admit that things on TV that are supposed to be funny leave me totally bemused. I know that younger people find things like Little Britain a great laugh....I find that kind of humour juvenile and a touch lavatorial....so maybe my sense of humour has degraded too.
|
I think you could be right on both counts there Margaret.
Maybe there's a generation gap thing when it comes to humour. Some of the things which older people find hilarious leave some younger folks looking perplexed.

Don't think that is special to the aged Garinda .. you laugh at other people's misfortunes or don't, full stop.
I can never concentrate on a stand up comedian .. my ex thought it was a lack of sense of humour ... no, just a lack of concentration I am afraid.
Alway surprises me that my son/grandaughter and his mates can watch programmes like 'Friends' over and over again and still laugh uproariously at the same bits
They also see the funny side of black comedy like Pulp Fiction and the Sopranos .. yes, is funny, but had to be pointed out to me.
Borat appears to be the new cult and he is much worse than Bernard Manning ... funny though ...

Re: Grumpy Old Men
i think the elders among us have a wider
sense of humour mainly because we can laugh
at ourselves and the youth dont know how to

Re: Grumpy Old Men
What really bugs me is those programs that have 'laugh' machines, to promt you to laugh, they get the 'deep six' (torpedoed) off yours truly, they are an insult to anyones intelligence.

Re: Grumpy Old Men
I tend to prefer the miserable ones - Jack Benny, Tony Hancock, Jack Dee.
I laugh with relief I suppose, at finding someone more miserable than me

Re: Grumpy Old Men
Yes, me too. I overdose on laughter when I go away with Ma......in fact the last time we went away we had the whole of the dining room in uproarious laughter....and people were vying with one another to sit close to our table so that they did not miss out on the fun.

Are those steak and kidney puddings? If they are I'll take the extra one. Trade for some moose steak. And no, a recipe won't do. I can bake decent bread, do a mean pie crust. But I couldn't make a good steak and kidney pudding to save my life.
