Has anyone tried that new place at the bottom of Warner St..........Bzars?
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Accrington actually does have some decent places to eat.
Francos is an excellent itallian resteraunt as is the Pack Horse on the top roads if you like itallian food. Papa Louigis on Church Street is also good grub!! Looking forward to trying the new place at the bottom of Warner Street so if anyones knows whether it is any good do let us know. Akash *** Bao Fu (cantonese takeaway) ***** Balti Stan (indian resteraunt ) **** |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Amicos on Ormerod St. do the best pizzas in town (only my opinion...but Ive tried them all!!)

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
In my opinion:

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
If you like your grub, go to The Rose n Bowl at Stackstead.....
Carvery....around a tenner....as much as you like....very good food. [smiley=yumyum.gif] |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
At home in front of the telly, after some of the disgusting things about restaurant food hygiene I've seen on it lately!! Yuk! :o

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Franco's is very good, but i wouldnt recomend the garlic mayonaise, i was almost sick from it, and it ruined my night! Couldnt sit still because i felt pretty bad for atleast an hour and a half after eating it!

Sorry but Franco's got the thumbs down from my Italian hubby. can't recommend it quality-wise myself either.
Best place I've eaten recently was bamboo garden on Union Rd Ossie. |

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I quite like Franco's now and again.
Only thing that puts me off is when I went earlier this year, I ordered chicken in breadcrumbs with bolognese sauce, and when it come the chicken was raw in the middle. Wasn't a happy bunny, I told them, they made ma nother and didn't charge me for any of the main meals. Which I thought was excellent customer service! |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Good hebab shop is Toppings on Blackburn road afacing Londsdale street.Got one there and had to get my daughter Franceska to help me finish it.
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
tried toppings did not like the kebabs from there!
checco's in harwood is a great itallian place. ;D |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I like the Mitali Indian Restaurant for eating out but for a takeaway Indian you cant beat Sha Joli in Clayton-le-Moors.
The best Chippy is Accrington has to be the one on Marlborough Street (near the Hospital). As for the Eating House Cafe (opposite the Town Hall) they do so lovely home made meals - but their all day breakfast is a winner. :) |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
new italian restarant opening soon bottom of dill hall lane used to be wellington pub.
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Any idea when it is opening, and who has got it?
|

Best chippy in Accy is the one on york street just off whalley road |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
sorry sara,
dont know when it's opening. |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
sp Emma which one is it? we always went to sither Marlborough road or whalley road at the top by moorhead, I think its still the same people that have had that one for 20 years! chinese couple
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
the one near the school is called Traceys fish bar now i think same side as oaklea club they are the same people that have york street chippy it's just off whalley road go past kwik fit (towards clayton) theres a little church on the left hand side first left there fantastic chippy.......i'm hungry now
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Be alright if the Italian in Church is same people as Checco's, foods good except garlic bread, always seems to be burnt.
Went for tea tonight to the chippy on Devonshire Street, Traceys fish bar, damn good it was. PS. Little Mo, the chinese near moorhead closed down a few years ago. But i remember the couple very friendly with excellent memories. |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
have to agree with you there tracey's chippy is excellent
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
York St Chippy is my favorite British takeaway,
with Eat well in Ozzy the best Chinese, and Mitali the no 1 Indian. As for Kebabs, Only grab one of those when on my way home, P****d!! The grubby envirornment and staff don't seem to matter then! |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Oh so that one was not on the tele then Cazzer? :-*
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
AKASH
I ordered 3 meals for delivery and an hour later when it didnt arrive i rang akash and found out that i had allegedly rang 5 mins after placing the order to cancel it. This was total crap.. if they were too busy to deliver the meal then they should of simply not taken the order in the 1st place... |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I have always found the best place to have a meal that you can really enjoy cooked to perfection, cheap, not far to travel, never any complaints plus you dont need to leave a tip has to be MY HOUSE of course. ;D
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Table for two please janet :P
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Can't believe no one has mentioned the Sun Dragon (opposite Winfields) and Guide Village Cantonese!! The best 2 Chinese restaurants around. I don't live in the area anymore but regularly visit these places!
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Anybody know when this Eye-Tye in the old Welly in Church is due to open?
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I will have to trie the sun dragon I keep looking at the signs but never get there
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Franco's cheap and cheerful good for price but Checco's better quality i think. Also what used to be Callums on Abbey Street is going to reopen as a Chinese! Not sure exactly when though!
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
never go to the station hotel in nelson
not if your a veggie anyway |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.

|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.

|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
[quote=Taggy]Also what used to be Callums on Abbey Street is going to reopen as a Chinese! Not sure exactly when though![/quote
Have you any idea if it's going to be a restaurant or a take-away? |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Its going to be a restaurant Sara, I spoke to Ray last week who owned Callums, but he did'nt know when it was due to open!
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Thanks for that Taggy. Like chinise food so shall have to give it a try when it opens.
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I'm lookin forward to it also Sara. Bit sad in a way because I did like Callums too. But we hav'nt had a good Chinese Restaurant in Accy for ages so will certainly be giving it a try! :)
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Only been to Callums a couple of times, but he really pi**ed me of when he pinched the wine. But the food was certainly good.
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Yeah I must agree the food was brilliant, but Ray is most definately "An aquired taste" shall we say! He's done that with us too...and nicked the wife's fags!!...that bit did'nt bother me as I dont smoke...but then he used to kneel down at side of our table and have his fag break there!!! Eccentric is one word I suppose!! Ha Ha! :) PS. He is starting a Taxi service up now, whereby if its morning along with your journey you get a paper and a coffee, or in evenings a glass of wine...going to be fun going over speed bumps or round corners I suspect!!!
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
malborou chippy is best chippy around
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
i have heard that the "Bamboo Garden" from ossy are the ones who have taken "callums".
|

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I love Bamboo Garden - I hope that doesn't mean it's moving out of Ossy. It's so close for us that we can stroll there and both have a glass of wine or beer. It's a bit on the pokey side though but love the food.
Also, love Franco's but again that's partly because it's so convenient - I don't think they've changed their menu for years but always decent grub. Had a bad meal at Checco's once which was a shame because it kind of wiped out all the previous good meals I've had there. Haven't been back since, perhaps it's time to give it another go! |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I did hear that they will be running both of them........don't worry gayle.

O Heck I hope not I dont really like that one (Bamboo Garden), not a patch on the food at Guide Chinese! Also I did'nt like the service either, youngish staff with a dont give a damn attitude on both our visits there. :(
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Guide one is really good - think it's a cantonese though. It's just not as convenient for us which makes us sound a bit lazy but when you've got a decent one on your doorstep it's much easier to frequent it.
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Dont worry I'm lazy too, if i had a decent one near to us i would'nt wander very far either!:)
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
amico's is good for pizza's
i love the chippy nr the dentist in ozzy - on union rd... west end chippy i think its called - glorious... i like the service too sometimes i feel at some places i'm gettin a 2nd rate service. but there i like... roosters cottage on blackburn rd i like too i need to try akash... |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Akash is very good and so to is Mitali who also do takeaway!

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
we like a take away from Imran's on Blackburn Rd in Accy free delivery and usually at the time they say or the aggreed time if you want later than when you ring up.

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
I agree about Kwong Ming Chinese Takeaway in Accy its Brilliant best in Accy by far...I will have to give west end chippy in Ossy a go to but dont know Ossy that well how far up Union Road is it because I dont Know where the Dentist is that has been mentioned but I know all the Pubs and Francos so if you could direct me from there i would be gratefull - Cheers. :)
|

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Thanks Cashman I know where it is now so will give it a try.! I know the Rose and Crown sometimes call in there on Thurs nights when they have an act on! Good thinking too Spuggie J about a really good Steak, and I must admit I think they are a bit thin on the ground around here! Used to get a Beauty at Callums but thats gone now, the last good one I had was at Chimes but hav'nt been there for a while. So come on Steak lovers point us in the right dirrection please!. :)

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
We were going to try The Calder, the new pub in town on Saturday lunchtime for a treat on Christmas Eve but I believe they don't allow children in even at lunchtimes
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
we went to the Farmers Glory in December........it was dreadful the food was not cooked properly and was served on cold plates which resulted in cold food.............yuk.........I complained and they said sorry! We had been meaning to go for ages.........it spoiled Neils birthday...won't be going again.

Only problem is people from the wine bar underneath have to go through the restaurant to get to the toilet and can create a draft every time the door opens. Apart from that, I thought excellent value .. sure he added the bill up wrong. :D |

They don't allow kids at all. IMHO thats a shame, Julie and I often have lunch in town at weekend but as we are usually pushing Siobhan it means its off our list of possible venues. What would be wrong with kids till say 5PM? We went in yesterday as grandma was looking after Siobhan. The food was OK and not expensive. They had run out of a core menu item though(Chicken and stuffing pudding) so I had to choose something different. They do real ale from a hand pump unfortunately the staff have no idea how to pull a good pint. My Flowers had no head left before I left the bar. |

Even tho I have young kids, I quite like the idea of no kids in the Calder....when we ate there over xmas on a child-free day I really enjoyed the food and the fact that I'd re-joined the grown up world at least for a couple of hours!

Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Ok here goes i know it's not in Accrington but the Duke Of Wellington is good on Grane Road and La Veranda is good as well at Station Steps going into Haslingden. I dont know if they still do it but they used to do a special offer there on Tues Wed and Thurs a 3 course meal for £10 main course had to be either pizza or pasta. You get loads. The Chinese at Acre is good as well just across the road from Winfields.
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Apparantly there's a new Eastern 'fusion' restaurant opened on the road over to Owd Bets, think it's what used to be the vegetarian restaurant Nutters.
Heard extremely good reports from it. |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
If your ever Ribble Valley way, check out the Three fishes. excellent.
Excellent Local produce. You can't beat it... |
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Have only heard good reports about the Three Fishes, but i've also heard the prices are extortionate (sp).
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
Oh, yes Three Fishes is excellent now. Prices aren't outrageous but I suppose they are what you would call on the pricey side. But, you get very big portions so it's value for money in that respect.
|

Kong City in Gt Harwood is excellent, went on Saturday night and one of the best chinese meals I've had, also a good place for lunch is The Naked Plate on Blackburn rd in Accy across from HSBC, we were going to go to the Calder but didn't realise children weren't allowed anyway glad we went to the naked plate now great menu (kids as well) all freshly cooked and big portions, wine and beer available as well, we'll be going back!
|
Re: Places to eat or not to eat.
have you tried reena up ossy the take away has been there years, they also have a restaurant now which may i say is brilliant, only 1 problem its not licensed but you can take your own beer wine or spirits, they supply the glasses though!went with some friends in december and the food was excellent, and the service was good too.ps its a curry house!:)
