F.A.O. Katex and anyone who remembers belm!

http://profile.ak.facebook.com/objec...12914_1578.jpg

Following on from a conversation with Katex on facebook (Katex didn't know what belm was.) This is a fab photo of a woman doing belm.

Who else remembers belm? :D

We belmed at someone when we thought they were lying.....e.g I won the lottery this weekend....BELM!!!

I'd forgotten all about it until someone mentioned it yesterday and since then I've been belming at everyone!

I haven't belmed so much on years! It's fab.....forget sticking fingers up, get belming! :mosher:

'chinny recKON' with the emphasis on the KON and your fingers tapping your chin was another way of belming at our school

Looks like an age thing then Margaret.

LOL Lilly .. thanks for explaining it to me .. does it mean then that "You are talking a bag of wind" Like a blowing up a balloon, and then letting it down, but from the top end as a finale ?

We did 'belming' (although i never knew it had a name!) as well as the one you describe Gayle, only my younger brothers came home doing that but saying 'chinny racoon':D their still just as stupid now haha

Re: F.A.O. Katex and anyone who remembers belm!

Our belming included a stroking of the chin.

When you were really good at it you could do one with just a slight downward movement of the lips, and a hardly visible chin thrust.

I always thought it had something to do with Jimmy Hill having a big chin because we used to say 'Jimmy Hill' sometimes and then 'reckon' meant - oh, you reckon that's right do you?

Never heard 'racoon' before - perhaps a hearing test would have been in order ;)

mrskitty 22-10-2008 14:35

Re: F.A.O. Katex and anyone who remembers belm!

Yea we sometimes said Jimmy Hill too....

as for 'racoon' it wasn't lack of hearing-it really was stupidity haha

This was Lilly's answer to my question on Facebook, before moving on to the second page, freaked me out ... thought you youngsters may have contortionist talents. :D

"Hahahahahahaha....that comment made me laugh so much, Kate! I don't think belm is in the dictionary. It was a fabulous word that was much used when we were kids in the 1980s....there is even a group set up on here to celebrate the belm and bring it back haha. When someone was thought to be telling lies we'd push our tongue down in between our bottom... ":eek:

Re: F.A.O. Katex and anyone who remembers belm!

I've seen young people do it recently and it's often accompanied with a sort of grunt - very hard to describe a sound on here.
