Bigotry on the web.

Over the weekend , perusing past quotes on the Accy Web , I was amazed at the degree of bigotry and prejudice relating to God , Christianity , the Catholic Church , saints etc.

It is easy to make cheap , shallow jibes at the expense of those who have deeply-held beliefs and outlooks on life different from one's own.

It appears to be not so easy to provide an in-depth explanation of one's own conclusions of what Reality is to back up the snide sneering.

May I suggest that those who wish to make such criticisms do so with some element of wisdom which gives expression to their views.

Re: Bigotry on the web.

Any perceived "bigotry" in relation to religion or any subject for that matter on here has usually been brought about as a direct response to a question asked or an article that may have been posted. The fact that those who choose to place an answer in respect of that topic may have negative opinions, well that is their choice, yet there is probably a vast number who do not choose to post & their views may well be in direct opposition to those posted. Broad sweeping assumptions on the answers returned & viewed are no basis to make such a statement.

That to some may seem a little Bigoted:)

So, you must be going for a full house, you come onto the site, find that some folk don't like religion or the pious (and often ignorant), views that your kind often hold dear and instead of minding your P's & Q's by tolerating our views you set yourself up as a missionary out to save our souls.

Well, you aren't the first and you won't be the last, we don't ask you to change your views to fit in but if you want us to change ours then you can F...ind another website.:)

P.S. Our Bigotry isn't just focused against Christianity & red knecks, we have very little tolerance of zealots from any religion.

http://www.tiptopglobe.com/skin/smile/s11957.gif
I'll say good bye now, with any luck you won't be a religious nutter that refuses to take a hint. (No chance, it would take a miracle for that to happen, and God stopped believing in us years ago).

Personally JCB, I find your post somewhat strange.
Accyweb is a microcosm of life.......what you see here, you will find walking the streets of any town in the world.
We all have our opinions........they may not be the same opinions, but they are ours.
We chose them......our choices were made because of experiences within our lives.
Wouldn't the forum, and indeed life be very boring if we all subscribed to the same views?
It is not in your remit to judge us. Yes, you may have your opinion....which you have stated clearly.....and you are entitled to that opinion......but please do not try to influence my opnion on anything. I am quite able to use my critical faculties to decide what I do, or do not believe.
I take it that you joined the forum, having looked at it first. If you now decide that you don't like what you see, then you are not tied in to it. Please feel free to leave.

Ruth VII P2:

I remember reading the story of a man who had a badge on his desk which read: PBPWMGHFWMY. It stands for this message: "Please Be Patient With Me - Yahweh Hasn't Finished With Me Yet". I would like to pin that badge on many Christians who have lost sight of the fact that Yahweh's work is still continuing. OK, you've made a disasterous mistake, maybe even hindered Yahweh's purpose in your life and in the lives of others. But take heart - Yahweh hasn't finished with you yet...if you'll let Him take charge of your life again and return home.

And I'll go back on what I said.
I will quote the Bible.
"Respect". It's in there somewhere.
What I am trying to get across is that whatever our beliefs we should not be bigotted , using intolerant language. If Bible-bashers used bigotted , intolerant language they are not being true to the Bible.

Well how do you justify this quote?

This we must believe. Our sins, when confessed, together with our mistakes, become the foundation on which Yahweh builds his blessings. Yahweh does not merely put up with our mistakes. He uses them.

For a book that size that is a disgrace. Needs a serious case of editor attack to sort it out and quick.

Well how do you justify this quote?

This we must believe. Our sins, when confessed, together with our mistakes, become the foundation on which Yahweh builds his blessings. Yahweh does not merely put up with our mistakes. He uses them.

Need chapter and verse to deal with that one Spuggie.

But don't believe all you read in the Bible.

If I want to be bigoted and intolerant, I'll be bigoted and intolerant. There's loads of bigoted and intolerant people on here. That's why you won't be happy here. Much better go talk to AndrewB. He LOVES to have long, long talks about Godbothering stuff!

Read it, I wouldn't believe a word that long haired hippie ever says, he's just like his Father, well no, he's probably worse, if he'd been born in Roman Britain he would have been Crucified for what he comes out with.

You're right to have doubts. In fact it's looking so hopeless, it's probably not worth your while coming back. This was just starters...next time we'll set Cashy and Garinda on you!

Nothing original there, we've seen those tactics before, pretending to be above everyone else and thinking we would really want you to come back, then doing exactly what you are doing, not going after saying goodnight but sitting there too peeved to sleep and too frustrated to think straight.

Well do yourself a favour, swear on your Bible tonight never to come back and don't break that solemn oath.

Good Rid... erm', sorry I mean, Good night, sleep tight, mind the Jehovah's witnesses don't bite.

Bloody Hell. I popped out for a pint an hour ago and returned expecting this thread to have been well put to bed by now - instead it's reading like someone with Tourettes on crack cocaine.

I'm going back down the pub.

It appears to be not so easy to provide an in-depth explanation of one's own conclusions of what Reality is to back up the snide sneering.

May I suggest that those who wish to make such criticisms do so with some element of wisdom which gives expression to their views.

Ok, let's talk about some of the bigotry that's perpetrated in the name of Jesus.

What so you think about a church that for decades has hidden and defended it's child abusing priests, and thus allowed them to go on and commit more heinous crimes, and ignored the thousands of young victims, in order to protect itself?

When we've fully exhausted and discussed this topic, we can move on to the bigotry that arises from not allowing people to protect themselves from transmittable diseases, because of man-made prejudices, and which has absolutely no Biblical foundation.

In the meantime, because it so suits you, have some more devilishy red karma from an atheist, and former Sunday school teacher.

Having a religion is like having life insurance.
Some fall for the sales patter, others don't.
Those that have it, swear by it.
Those that don't, resent the sales pitch.
..especially from doorstep salesmen.

God talk on the forum is annoying because you can't slam the door on his foot.

Is everyone quite convinced this isn't Cllr Broadley now?

I'm convinced whoever it is, isn't a full shilling.

O.K. freedom of speech etc, etc, these people have to be allowed by society to have their say, but wouldn't it have been fairer for the rest of us if his fingers had been removed before allowing him near a keyboard?

Wasn't it Jesus, in Matthew 5:39, who said 'Turn the other cheek', when faced with aggression?

I suppose that was well before mankind came along, and founded all the different churches in his name, and imposed their own bigotries, and ignored most of Christ's teaching.

I'm still trying to dig myself out of the avalanche that descended on me last night.

I was accused , not in the forum , of being patronising . If there was anything genuinely patronising in what I said please point it out so I can rectify it.

Reading my quotes accurately , and not jumping to false conclusions
Am I Jewish?
Am I Buddhist?
Am I Agnostic?
Am I Hindhu?
Am I Christian?
Am I Atheist?
Am I Moslem?
Am I Jain?
Am I Humanist?
Am I none of these?

Read accurately please or don't waste time replying.
