Interesting study result

We all know how debilitating dementia is and like a lot of other people who worry about it happening to them I do all the puzzles and quizzes I can to keep my brain stimulated as much as possible. However I read a very interesting article in the paper the other day which stated that the findings of a recent U.K. study could provide hope for the thousands of Britons at risk of developing this dreadful affliction. The study was carried out with some 6800 people (male and female) between the ages of 50 and 89 who were quizzed about their sex lives and were set mental tests.

Turns out that those who were still active in the bedroom had better results in the mental tests than those who weren’t. It’s thought to be something to do with the hormones that are released in the brain during sex. So those conducting the study came to the conclusion that having more sex in later life can help stave off dementia. How about that!

And here I was thinking doing puzzles was the best way to go about it….

Looking forward to reading any comments.

I think I will stick with the word puzzles Dotti.
All that hunching and thrutching is very unbecoming.
Sweaty old bodies doing the horizontal tango......aaaaargh, not a picture worth looking at!

Ha ha. That's some picture you paint, Margaret, and don't forget the wrinkles.

Wrinkles disappear when I take my glasses off Dotti.
I think that Mother Nature gives with one hand(wrinkles) and takes away with the other(eyesight).....but then doing it in Braille isn't any better.
We are really plumbing the depths here.

"The pleasure is momentary, the position ridiculous, and the expense damnable.":D

Of course, there are other positions. Check out Moche pottery. Or, if you are not into anthropology, there are tens of thousands of web sites.;) ...

I do remember listening to a show on CBC about sex in seniors' homes .... old folks' homes for the politically incorrect:rolleyes: ... in the Netherlands. I've no intention of finding a link; I still have some shoveling to do. But it goes something like this: seniors who remain sexually active and/or interested live longer and happier lives. Some homes provide porn videos for the residents who are not into the horizontal bop ... or "tango" if one is more traditional.

But I don't think that the idea is a new one. I remember reading an article in "The Spectator" ... 1965, I believe ... entitled "September Sex." Nowt wrong wi' my memory, eh. (that's Canadian Lanky). I firmly believe that remaining physically, mentally, and sexually active is the key to a happy old age.

Well, Eric, everyone to their own I guess. I remain mentally active......and physically active too....But the horizontal tango doesn't do it for me anymore.
That doesn't mean that I do not share a closeness with my other half.
Happiness is subjective.......and later this year if we both live long enough we will clock up 50 years of being married.
That doesn't happen if you are not happy together. Unhappiness occurs when sexual appetites are not in sync.

Oops! sorry, Mick - didn't realise what I'd started with this thread. Will be more 'selective' in future.

I'm with you there Dotti.
During my career I saw enough 'ugly parts' (and heard enough ugly language too)to satisfy my curiosity for the rest of my life.

Same here, bud.;)

Maybe the rules should be changed. Instead of "over 18 years of age", the threshold should be "having an IQ over 18". This would have the added bonus of keeping the moderators, bacteria, and viruses out of there.:alright:
