Mel, sorry to have to ask but what is ICT? I am guessing something IT/computer related? These things change their name that often that us 'oldies' may not know what you mean.

IT can be an interesting (and highly paid) career. There are a myriad of jobs to do from initial design through build, testing, deployment and Support. You don't have to be an out and out techie to be employed in IT. In fact, the number of people I work with that don't know one end of a PC from another quite scares me sometimes. The only 'down' side is that currently it is highly fasionable to take teh work to countries who will work for significantly less than we will over here. for example, I have had to train 6 Philipino's to do my job. They are paid approximately 20% of what I earn as this provides a comfortable living over their. The next place that will come along is China, It is growing so quickly and has such an enormous population that they will literally work for pennies.

Whatever you do choose, make sure its something that you enjoy. You spend a large part of your life at work, do something you enjoy.

Re: apprenticeship

Mel,
If you are really interested in IT as a career path, let me know and I will pop in and talk you through the sort of stuff that happens in IT. It may give you an insight into the sort of niche you want to follow. I can also then ask the relevant people how would be best to get into it. I can talk to you about the design/build realm of Internet based technology.

The only thing you may want to think about is that not knowing what they currently teach you in ICT you may find teh real world is nothing like what they teach.

Let me know if you want a chat
