you could always nip down to the one in Blackburn and ask the manager there about it

Re: Ossy Tesco looking for staff

Flashy, as horrible as it sounds, by telling everyone else that Tesco's are looking for staff you have reduced the possibility of you getting taken on.

Now loads more are looking for it to apply there :D

There are always jobs for care assistants, does that not rock any boats?

Is it just me or is the jobcentre site crap!
The job titles are always only a few characters long, most likely because they use the same info for the jobpoints, however I'm sure they could have it looking better if they knew what they were doing.

It's a dreadful time for anyone to be looking for a job. There must be so many candidates for every opening, employers can afford to be really picky. Good luck to anyone who's trying right now.

Oh, Blazey, if you don't get the first job you go for, after uni, shall we assume you're not as qualified with a Law book as you first thought? Not that you'll tell any of us.............

Actually, students apply for jobs several years in advance most of the time, so we're constantly applying for jobs.

I felt Ian was being a bit overly optimistic and rubbing it in peoples faces, so I made my comment.

I've never actually said how good of a law student I am, I just work hard like any other person. I don't see why I would need to talk about it.

How on earth can you apply for jobs several years in advance? Even if an employer was aware a job "might" come available so long before it did you don't know what qualifications you have to bring to the company. I am sure you make things up as you go along!!!!

Oh No? You don't tell us how good a Law Student you are.......is this not a bit of self publicity?
From 'How competitive are you'
The reason I asked is because the tutors at university are keen to nurture my attitude as it is lacking in a lot of the other law students at Lancaster and as you would expect,

Thats how it works, some students get sponsored by an employee and work for them in the holidays with the chance of a full time job when/if they graduate

Law students apply 2 years in advance for training contracts. That's the norm anyway. My tutors want me to do a masters though so I think I'll apply during next year. I've got a lot of work this Summer and I need to focus on that first.

They don't want me to do the masters at the university I'm at as it doesn't cover the areas I'm interested in.

I'm being paid to do research over the Summer though which has potential to lead to funding in the future for doing a Phd, so I'll see how that goes.

blazey 12-06-2009 10:36

Re: Ossy Tesco looking for staff

It will of course indirectly benefit them as my name on research papers would reflect back to the university.

It is funny you should say that cause I am doing research over the summer.... it is called Prep for my dissertation, now..... Remember, preperation, preperation, Preperation.

It's the grades for your degree you should be concentrating on not what you are going to do in the distant future..... Master, PhD, Do you actually plan on working for a living at some point or are you going to be the lecturers friend ......the serial student!!!!!!!????

Like I said in a previous post with your experience and expertise you are obviously invaluable!

blazey 12-06-2009 11:03

Re: Ossy Tesco looking for staff

Yes I'm doing my dissertation preparation right now.
I'll also be working on some Widening Participation Summer schools, then working on my research internship doing the ELSA paper for the EU's initiative on AmI.
I'll also be down in London on a Law Summer School and I have a mini-pupillage in September.

Please don't attempt to patronise me just because I appear to be an unpopular member on this forum. I work hard and I don't really care if you think I'm thinking a lot of myself. I have earnt the right to be confident about what I do and I'm not going to be ashamed of that. I hold down a lot of positions at university, one in particular which benefits ALL students as I organise big companies to visit the university to run skills workshops and networking events, a part time job which enables students which are younger than me to gain the knowledge they require for university and I get first class marks on top of it all.

Now maybe I am sometimes I bet reckless with what I say on this forum, and I'll admit that I go as far as being offensive, but I am NOT all talk and no action, so please don't think you have some right to think I'm anything less than capable of everything I say I am going to do, because it will only make you look foolish.

I think I've made enough of a point now.

Right you've BIGGED yourself up enough!!! We have a running itenary of your summer ... YAWN!!!

There will only be one person who is foolish in years to come... YOU, when you look back at the way you are now and how very, very patronising you are.....

I think I have made a more valid point in not as much words Blazey, one that will ring true!!... eventually

Margaret Pilkington 12-06-2009 11:20

Re: Ossy Tesco looking for staff

Confidence is one thing...ego is another.....and there is a difference.

Blazey, you tell another member not to patronise you, yet
you are patronising, supercilious, and insensitive, no-one looks foolish for pointing out these facts to you......
It appears that you think that all the good folk of Accrington, and those on here especially, have had very little in the way of valid experiences of life. We, in your opinion have not lived....because we haven't all been to Uni......you talk down to us like we are not worthy of your interest......and you expect all these traits to endear you to us.
It isn't even as if you are studying law at Oxbridge, you are at a lowly provincial university......a university that needs its students because they are the oxygen it breathes and the money it earns.
And while you may have earned the right to be confident...it doesn't give you the right to denigrate the people who live in Accrington and surrounding areas....after all it is where you come from, whether you like it or not.

I'm not patronising to my peers though, I'm a very well respected individual and I don't need your confirmation of this, particularly when you don't know me.

Anyone who has met me on this forum will tell you what I am like as a person and it will all be positive.

I don't know anyone at home who does homeopathy for a start. And I'm not the sort of person who people would just know of, I haven't socialised with new people at home for over 3 years.

I also never said anything about the quality of the job Margaret, and I don't think the fact that it is a 'lowly paid job' is relevant.

Naturally I put myself before strangers Nicola. And my comment in this thread was a joke. I'm sure you have all heard much more offensive jokes on the television.

Margaret Pilkington 12-06-2009 12:25

Re: Ossy Tesco looking for staff

Blazey, I didn't say that you said considered the job lowly.......it was just the impression you gave....and you do in your last post quote it as a fact that it is a 'lowly paid job'........your comments to the guy were inappropriate and offensive.

And of course you put yourself before strangers, anyone who conducts a love affair with themself will be happy all of their lives.....have a happy life Blazey.

Which comment was the joke.....it seems to have passed me by.
I will not post anything more to this thread as I feel the subject has now been exhausted.

I've been waiting for such a person to come forward and testify to your good qualities, Blazey, but it hasn't happened.

Now, you patently believe you are a cut above the rest of the contributors to this forum. I would hazzard a guess that you are the first in your family to attend Uni, am I correct in this assumption? This doesn't hold much sway with me because, in my family, going to Uni is the norm, not the exception. I am not impressed or awed by the thought of your attending a red-brick university, particularly as you haven't grasped basic grammatical rules such as the past tense of "earn" is earned, not earnt.

There are many members of this forum, who haven't had the advantage of tertiary education, who can, and do, run rings round you when it comes to intelligence and common sense. Never under estimate your fellow Man because of his lack of Advantages.

Naturally I put myself before strangers Nicola. And my comment in this thread was a joke. I'm sure you have all heard much more offensive jokes on the television.

If you read the post you will see that I never actually said that I knew you, you were again, making assumptions!!

You don't "do" homeopathy you practise!

I am not surprised that you have not socialised with anyone at home in the last 3 years, considering the attitute you have, I will make the assumption that you would find it difficult to integrate with the lowly people of Accrington now, considering the depth and quality of your life and education have made this sooo very difficult for you... not to mention that you have been in the bright lights of................ Lancaster:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I have to agree with you!!! I too put myself and my family before strangers, but in saying that I try not to offend family, friends, strangers or even people that I don't care for, with ill thought out remarks and comments. If you are going to put something as joke you could try making it a bit more obvious that it actually IS A JOKE, instead of waiting for the barrage of remarks from your fellow accywebbers.

Again I have to agree with you, I have heard much more offensive jokes on television... but then they are generally coming from a comedian.... Are you now saying you are a dab hand at comedy too!!! What an extensive CV you have..........:D

I got good and bad reputation for my comment, so obviously some people did find it funny.

I have barely been home to socialise with people, and it isn't a case of not wanting to socialise with anyone at home, I have a lot of friends at home, I just don't often see them any more as most of them have also moved on to other universities.

I don't see why humour has to be obvious either, it was mostly for my own amusement than an attempt to make anyone else laugh. Would you like to read over my posts in future before I publish them?

just curious, Do British Universities have to reserve a number of of places for members of society thru "positive discrimination" i.e. extra entry points for folks who suffer from ADD or other Psychological problems (delusions of grandeur) , having a sexually confused personality , or even (God Forbid) having the handicap of having to write Oswaldtwisle as place of birth on application forms .
Thanks ;) ;)

I find it amusing that this forum allows so much discrimination on the basis of religion, race and health. It actually seems never ending at times.

If I was to start mouthing off about the health problems of some of our members in the way that people do to me then I'd probably be banned by now so 'personally insulting members' or whatever the infraction says.

I'm not going to stay on this forum and be ridiculed over my mental health. You're disgusting.

10/10 for stalking me.

Yes I was home for Xmas, what a surprise. I also had 4 essays to write over xmas so that was actually the only night I went out over xmas. As I have limited time at home I tend to spend it with my younger brother and sister rather than going out. Most of my friends at home have children now so don't go out whenever they have time, so if I see them it is normally over a cup of tea in their houses but it's never for long as they have to tend to the babies.

Re: Ossy Tesco looking for staff

I don't think it counts as stalking....but then you would say that just to be contentious.

I think that sometimes you have a clear conscience, but a very 'foggy' memory.

And as for the explanation, it really wasn't necessary........you said you don't socialise, the pictures told a different story.

You have been missing a classic case of gang forum bullying/stalking against one individual (who at times does post some controversial posts) ... which is now getting rather boring with their sanctimonious, distasteful and venomous remarks.

hold on a moment Kate, when she (Blazey) starts something is it not in our nature to defend ourselves? i think on this occasion you are so far from the truth its unreal...NO ONE is bullying her and NO ONE is stalking her, she gets all she deserves for mouthing off like she does, i think you need to take off those rose tinted spectacles and actually see what is going on right before your eyes

if you think its getting boring then simple...DONT READ IT

Katex, if she can't take it she shouldn't give it out so readily...
Who is bullying/stalking who exactly? I am simply responding to replies to my posts.... with facts!
I don't actually despise anyone, I just don't like it when people make remarks that are completely out of order and tactless...

You are right it is getting boring:rolleyes:

Margaret Pilkington 16-06-2009 20:32

Re: Ossy Tesco looking for staff

I don't think there has been any forum bullying. Blazey came on the forum with the premeditated aim to 'wind people up'....because she was bored.(I think they call that 'trolling')She has said in many posts some spiteful things.......she has denigrated the people of Accrington, and implied that the folk on the forum are, for want of a better word 'numpties'.

Now she has reaped a little of what she has sowed and most of people who have posted to these threads are of the same opinion.

Kate you are entitled to your opinion, and I respect that, but she has irritated and offended too many people and revels in that fact.
