Re: 3D Panoramic Pics
I hope to get up the coppice sometime and test out the 360 camera app that is on the new nexus 4. I have been trying in the house but it is very hard to capture a picture that isn't doubled or trippled in places

Dave It's quite hard to take a pic. I am off work next week so If you are planning a wander up the coppice sometime during next week I could meet you up there and you can have a try at taking a 360 pic. It takes time. Well over 5 mins.

How can i describe it... Imagine yourself in the center of the room. You face the wall take and you see a square in center of the screen. It focuses then you move it to the right it captures the next photo when you reach this dot about 2cm on the screen. It takes 11-12 photos to do the entire room. But then there is also up and down to take into consideration. So a full 360 shot is around 36 pictures knitted together. The file displayed here it would just like a like a crazy panoramic pic that made no sense. On googles page you can up it and get the 3D sphere effect.... https://plus.google.com/photos/11002...06988734372865 Here is an example Quote:
Though that is very funny. This phone is very fragile(OMG why do I have it!) and the effort Davemac puts in with his compact convinces me I can trust him to 1) get a better result than me(I would like to get one 360 pic that doesn't look screwed up) and 2) not drop it and smash the glass that is made out of haha |
Re: 3D Panoramic Pics
I thank you kind sir for those kind words. Thinking slightly out of the box to get a panoramic shot, and this should only take you the time it takes to capture say 15 single photos. Take single photos with a slight overlap in a full circle, then using the software irfanview you can create a panoramic shot as it will combine the photos for you.
Not sure if this appeals to you, or whether you are determined to master the phone, but the easiest option, is, in my book, always the option I would choose. The way you described the way the phone works would give a photo of differing exposures as you are taking 36 pictures (this is a lot), if the sun if going in and our of cloud, by the time you have done a sweep you will have dark pictures, over exposed pictures, and if something is moving in the picture, ghosting. Just a note on the number of shots you have to take, 36 for a full 360*, thats one every 10*. To my none technical mind that appears to be almost a full overlap for the first photo......... the second photo overlaps the first,... the third photo overlaps the first and second, then the fourth photo overlaps first, second, and third, although in diminishing amounts. This overlap would continue right around the field of view until you get back to the start point. I will throw this technical thing up in the air for others opinions, as my head hurts now.
