Also if you go left you walk through the quarry with its walls, paths and spoil piles from when it was worked, and coming down off the quarry by the main road down the old firing range is off to the left. Check out my Hapton quarry photos on my flickr page to give you some idea of what you can find. |

I feel like a newcomer, when have we had a firing range? By the way, I thought castle clough wood a much nicer walk than hameldon wood. |

As for the firing range, I dont have any specific dates, however Retlaw has actually used it, so he should know. |
Re: 3D Panoramic Pics
I found hameldon to be a bit too man made, the path was worn away and you can see the waterproofing underneath (if that`s what it is) and the trees where just too straight, like they had been planted rather than just grown there on there own.
I think i might go down castle clough again tomorrow. |
Re: 3D Panoramic Pics
The path washed away last summer with all the heavy rain we had, instead of going straight up, go right, it takes you away from the pines and toward the stream and the bluebells, much nicer. Did you find the waterfall at the far end of castle clough?

Re: 3D Panoramic Pics
Flickr: davemac43's Photostream this page shows the stream through Hameldon woods, there is a strange bit of carved stone that I can only guess was used to dam or divert the stream for some reason.

You could get round if you wanted to, but there was nowhere to go, just a little waterfall then the stream disappeared. I did get a pic though.

I guess we started at opposite ends. I came from the canal side.
