The last two are on Blackburn Old Road with my back to Dean Clogh Res.

I would think that it means 10 per day across threads. Be interested to know how much server space and bandwith accyweb has per month or whatever

HA not at all. But my geeky nerdiness comes out in these moments.

Say every photo was 512kb each you added 10 a day on one thread and 10 a day on another that is 10MB of data. Now say 5 more people did that in one day. That is 50MB of data.

Now times that by 7 for us adding them everyday of the week times that by 4 for the month. Thats over 1GB in photos alone. Think of quite a few people clicking each photo to take a look.... or think of 10 people decided to look at all our photos for a month(doubtful but..), in one day, in this example 10GB of bandwith will be downloaded from accyweb server.

We have been adding them a lot and not thinking about all this because a few photos isn't much in filesize. Add them all up....accyweb must have quite a lot of server space and a lot of bandwith otherwise we would not be able to access the forum due to running out of the bandwith for the month...

Note: If my maths don't add up; you will have to forgive me. Ive always been bad at maths.(though I accounted for the fact that 1mb is 1024KB and not 1000KB)

Hurrah for geeky nerdiness Rob - someone's got to do it!!

You assume above that each pic is 512kb - the ones I posted yesterday were all less than 100kb each which I think is adequate. Easy enough to get down to if you resize.

How does looking at a photo on the server result in a download of any type, I think this is a flaw in your hypothesis, and the limit is 500kb. I don't know what the size would be if posted directly into the text box without reduction.

Plus I don't think the capacity on the server is a problem, it is the cost of the hosting, the capacity in infinite, but has to be paid for through contributions to the site.

Restless 29-07-2012 15:12

Re: 3D Panoramic Pics

I dunno, I have never run a forum. It was all hypothesis. I have run a website before. Once when I was more ambitious with music. I met around 25 people from a mailing list in london in 2004 when I saw american muisc club. Pictures was taken. I put the picture of all of us on my site and linked it to the mailing list. Within 20 mins my site was down and inactive because bandwith was used up.

the photo is stored on the sever. to see it is to download it. You are not downloading the file to keep so you don't think of it as downloading

I used 512 becuase 1MB is 1024KB not 1000kb. It was just an example :)

Perhaps Neil or Mick can correct me if I am wrong on all this... But this is the kind of thing I find interesting. What a nerd i have become :o

Take a look at that screenie.

I just booted up ubuntu. Loaded accyweb. Come to this thread and viewed around 10 pics

around 500KB of that is used loading the main page and then loading this thread the rest is me clicking your pics and each one of those blue spikes is when I clicked on a picture

But it says you are receiving data not downloading it, when you view a photo you are doing just that, you dont download it, you use up bandwidth to see it. As I see it, its this, storage is the amount of space on the server required to keep each item, bandwidth is the space available to view the stored image, the more bandwidth the more people can see it. That is the reason the site slows down sometimes, too many people trying to read what is on the server.

Restless 29-07-2012 20:29

Re: 3D Panoramic Pics

Whether you display it in a browser or download the file to keep you are still downloading the picture. When ever you read a webpage you are downloading.

The accyweb server will have a bandwidth limit and a serverspace limit.

the limit is detemined by the amount they can afford.

Theorizing that if they was 512kb. 1MB is 1024 not 1000 1GB is 1024MB. It makes the theory easier to calculate in nerd

For xaccy http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/n...te=1&p=1005979 this link will take you to the message box that you type the message in on the panoramic thread.

you will notice this area is grey, don't go outside this area, follow the top line across, it starts with a double A. then says Verdana. then 2. then A. then a smiley icon. then the paperclip, click on this. It will bring a box up that say manage attachments click on the top browse option, it then brings up a window that is looking for the photo, best place to put it is on the desktop, choose desktop then click on the picture and choose the open button, it then puts the picture ready for uploading. Click on the upload option and wait while it uploads, when done click the submit reply button, and the picture is then posted along with your comments.

It sounds complicated but having done it once, a second time will be a breeze.

When I get to browse in your instructions above, click on that and takes me to my pictures file, double click on the picture I want and it goes straight into the first slot available in the manage attachments box. Repeat for each picture.

Is that not what I was explaining, my instructions are not very clear if you dont understand, I was explaining for xaccy who had not uploaded a picture before, and rather than a double click it was one click on the photo and then the open option , I suppose the end result is the same, you double click on the picture, my way is one click on the picture then one click on the open option. The total number of clicks remains the same.

But you mentioned desktop, don't understand how that fits in. Apart from that yes it's the same, sometimes a one click on the picture and then open is what I do too instead of the double click.

I tend to put singular photos on my desktop they are easier to find, its just my way, then when used, put away in a folder on my external hard drive, if they are in a folder you have to find the folder then open the folder then choose the picture.

I hope it sounds easy once tried, I was just trying to get xaccy to understand how to upload a panoramic shot he has taken.

If he is reading this, then perhaps if he posts here any problems, we can go step by step, we really want to see those snaps

Sorry for being thick about the desktop, thought that's what you meant but wasn't sure.

You did a great job about explaining to Xaccy, it's not easy writing down a procedure when you usually do it automatically.

Thats what we like to hear, you might also want to have a look at "Today in Pictures" its still within the Accy Photo section. The idea is in 10 photos, or less of course, to take a few snaps of your day when you are out and about. If you have a look at the thread you will get what we mean.

Well it can be confusing, as localy its Birdy Brow, or sometimes Kemple End, but its Sunday name is Longridge fell. If that doesnt get you close, then it is close to what was Chaigley Manor Childrens Home.

Interesting, never heard of that circle. Just looked at the info leaflet about it. We lived near Stonehenge for many years so I got a bit sick of prehistory but perhaps I should start investigating what's about in this area.

It's sort of between Whitewell and Garstang - so coming from Accy it's before Garstang SD 577460 - very nice in summer.:D

Pic 4 is fantastic.

Oh I love Pic 2... There is something the little fella can see off in the distance that we cannot...but then again....is it the view we appreciate so much that we take a picture of it. He seems transfixed in this pic. :)
