Another milestone on this thread Dave. 300 pages up, well done.

I am honoured that everyone has stayed with the thread and contributed , I noticed when you pointed out the number of pages, that we have had 4501 replies and 123617 views. I don't know how that stacks up against other threads but I am pleased. So a pat on the back to all who posted, replied or viewed the thread.

Thanks Dave, the "Today in pictures" and the photograph competitions have been a great help to me recently. It has got me out and about again and I am slowly, very slowly getting to grips with life again.

I hope that all the time and effort that you and the other people who have posted photos has been appreciated by other viewers.
Let's hope it continues to page 600 and onwards.

I know the pain of recent months knocked you sideways, and I am glad the participation on the thread has helped. I too have found that the taking of snaps, and the dog walking are my distraction from life's problems.

The pictures are really "today in pictures a week late"

1 The Hotel
2 Staircase which I never used because I used the lift.
3 View from the rear window of the bay in my room. The other window looked out over the gardens and lake.
4 Another hotel further down the promenade. The British Legion used part of it when they refurbished their own hotel four years ago.
5 Boats on the lake.
6 Something on a pole.
7 Bridge over lake.
8 Pier.
9 Lamp over pier.
10 a pretend paddle boat.

Plenty more photos to follow day by day.

Some lovely photos there -the hotel looks very plush. Like DiG I also know Southport very well -we used to go for days out when I was little. A picnic in the park, a trip out on the boating lake and a game of mini-golf, it was heaven. As you say a bit more up-market than Blackpool - some lovely shops, especially on Lord Street -I remember one which sold hand-made chocolates which were heavenly. They also had a very nice Victorian Arcade but I think Accy's is better architecturally -just in need of some TLC!
Later when I was a student in L'pool Southport was a nice day out away from the city sometimes -just a quick train journey. It is still looking very well!

4, Another boy on a flying bicycle.
5, A flying thing just about to land
6, A pretend train on the pier.
7, Horses on Merry go round.
8, Pier at night.
9, A thing which made the girls scream.
10, View from my bedroom, aircon worked only when the window is shut.

Have just seen the original photo in the photo comp. - really good!

I was at the re-opening of the Albert Docks in 1984 -there was a great fireworks display. It's a fabulous area to visit -lots going on round there. Haven't been back to L'pool since I left in 1985...

Some very interesting shots there, like the train shot and the kid with a dummy in wishing he could drive the train.

Today in Pictures, a short walk through Hameldon Woods.

1. From the main road, its seconds until you are in the woods.
2. Its dappled shade, due to the dense canopy.
3. The stream has all but dried up.
4. I think, in the past this was an access point.
5 Glancing down to the bottom path, before we enter the Pine section.
6. Looking up the lines of Pine trees..
7. Hapton Scouts.
8. Not going over that today.
9. Looking across to Pendle Hill from the edge of the site.
10. Looking back up the path that takes us back to the main road.

Love number two for the different coloured tree trunks and the light and shadow.

4. Two big choppers out for the day.
5. I can't resist taking photographs of flying bicycles.
6. Triumphs are back in production in England and British owned.
7. Big ugly brute, the engine is 2.3 litres, almost as big as my car's.
8. Only fair to show some American muck.
9. Dodgy little ginnel off Lord Street.
10. Where they fed and watered me.

Lovely flutterby and the squirrel. Nice to see an old chimney in one of those photos of Accy too.
