Next time I am in the area will have a look for his name.

P.S. Just read through to here and see walter has given you more information than would be on the memorial.

Thank you Dave. If you are in the area again, would you think it too cheeky of me to request a snap of his name on the memorial? No worries if it's a bother, I already feel guilty about sending you on the Rothwell House expedition. Although I will always treasure your photo of the waterfall, especially as you had to brave the nettles to get it! :)

How did you find that info, Retlaw? I'm on Ancestry, and found some records, but that is amazing! Incidentally, he was underage when he joined up. He travelled to Lincolnshire thinking he wouldn't be found out as easily as if he joined up in Lancashire. He hated working in the cotton mill so much that becoming a soldier seemed like a better life. Sadly, that proved not to be the case.

Now that would be telling.
Young Richard might have been under age when he enlisted, but he was of military age when he got to France.
Did you know his older brother John Thomas also served in the Lincolns. Pte. 1848. 11th Lincs, looks like they enlisted around the same time from their numbers on the form which lists all his kin the bit thats missing after Army Form is W 5080.

Today in Pictures, walking in the woods, sunny spells, and a nice day to be out.

1. There is a sense that Autumn is not far away.
2. A sign that this area had another purpose.
3. It says on the sign "welly walk", but not today.
4. Bracken fern on the floor, with a very high canopy at this point.
5. Puff Balls.............oh yes.
6. Well I never heard it.
7. Out of the shade and into the light.
8. That was the way up.
9. Not our way today, we go right.
10. I can see right up your frond.

Thank you, I didn't know about John Thomas being in the same regiment. This is a great help. I couldn't find him in the Service records, but now I've got him in the Medal Roll documents. I'm still trying to puzzle through it...
Retlaw - you're a star!

We went on the sand dunes at Lytham today it was very blustery, sand blowing everywhere so I left my camera in the car.

Well we made it safely there and back, no vagabonds or highwaymen.
Nice walk, now it's time for a lie down.
