I only suggested that one because I know someone that keeps them (when he finds them) as 'pets', he keeps them in old sweet jars in his garage and enjoys studying the transformation stage (each to their own I suppose).

Tell the pratt to leave them alone, caterpillars don`t belong in sweet jars for his entertainment.

I know what your saying g, dare I say it, he seems to know his moths
He creates little microcosmic habitats for them so he can watch them metamorphose. They pupate in amongst the soil and leaf litter and hatch out next May/June (so I'm told). he keeps them outside to make sure they come out when all the other Elephant Hawk-moths are coming out and assures me none have died.

Just harking back to the WW 1 memorial service, this picture is of the first gun fired at the start of WW1, taken at the War Museum Salford.

Yesterday and today in pictures.

1. A walk between a motorway (M65) and an industrial site.
2. Poisonous, Belladonna, called deadly and woody nightshade depending on the colour of the flower.
3. A field separates me from the motorway.
4. Once worthy of gate posts and a gate, now barbed wire has to suffice.
5. Despite the heavy crop, I have yet to encounter anyone "blackberrying"
6. Round the corner the trees become less.
7. Pendle Hill comes into view.
8. This section of the thistle has despatched its seeds.
9. & 10. Today : not having visited for a while, this small patch of poppies close to the memorial made me stand still and looking for a moment.

I forgot to say it was Mercer Park, I don't know if they had been sown, or germinated when the shrubs were grubbed out, but they did come as a surprise.

Just passing the Altham Ambulance station and couldn't resist taking this snap with the little pocket camera. It was the cables aligned with the cloud which caught my eye.

The other is a broken window on Bank Street Accrington.

I just came round past Walton Arms and the scene was shouting out to have it's photo taken. The only place I could take it without getting out of my motor was on the zig zags at the little Altham school. luckily i was side ways on so I could lower a window.
The little Panasonic camera goes everywhere with me and is so handy at times like that.
It's a tip Garth Dawson told me , probably near thirty years ago, always have a camera handy, no matter what sort because once the moment has passed it's too late to go home for it and many a good snap has been missed.
