Re: Today in pictures

Thank you Margaret.
I couldn't drag myself away from Whistlers painting.
It was absolutely amazing and there were not many people about.
The guide spent 40 minutes with the two of us explaining many aspects of the painting.
If it hadn't been closing time I would have stayed looking longer.
We were the last to leave and the guide let us go out through a staff exit to save the long walk round the building.
The golf buggy was waiting to take us back up to our car.
We felt privileged.

That is a spectacular painting isn't it?
It was obscured by scaffolding the last time I was there.....they were doing essential repairs to the ceiling above the mural.....so I was disappointed. I had to buy a picture postcard of the mural to see it properly, but nothing beats seeing it 'in the flesh' so to speak.
I love the house, it's setting and the views.
I hope one day to be able to visit again.

Another place you would like is the Portmeirion Village. That is a beautiful spot. It would be easy to imagine you were in an Italian village. Truly beautiful and not too far from Anglesey.

We planned to go to Portmeirion the day after we had been to Plas Newydd but something more exciting cropped up which you will get to see when I've downsized the files.
We have both been to the village in the past (not together ) and it's very interesting but damn expensive.

I love that shot of the shiny conkers...what a brill pic!

It had been a lean year so far for fungi, but now the nights are closing in and the temperatures are dropping at night they are bursting out all over the place, glad you like my conkers.

Yes it is a bit pricey, but then it is beautiful and you have to pay for beautiful things(one way or another).
I have been a few times and always enjoyed my visits.

The day after we visited Plas Newydd we heard about a small pleasure cruiser heading for Menai Bridge. we made enquiries and found out it was taking passengers from Llandudno to Menai Bridge where it was picking up more passengers, then going through both bridges before sailing round Angelsey then between Puffin island and Angelsey and back to Llandudno.
It turned out that it was going to head back to Menai Bridge landing stage with the few passengers it collected there.
We decided that we would have a trip so we boarded at Menai Bridge stage did the trip under the bridges around the island and Puffin island to Llandudno.
Then 400 passengers alighted and just twelve of us we brought back to Menai Bridge stage. Five hours most enjoyable.
The sunset was unbelievable and I can assure you that none of the photos have been enhanced. The sea was actually red with reflection from the sun.
There were two bars and a restaurant on board.
No. 1 Balmoral.
No.2 Under the new bridge, the new steel work carries the London to Holyhead railway.
No. 3 Old bridge looking through the new one.
No.4 Speed boat showing off.
No. 5 Puffin Island.
No.6Hotel on Greta Orme.
No. 7 Llandudno pier,
No. 8Greta Orme
No.9 sunset and light house.
Sunset back at Menai Bridge landing stage.

Wish you were there Margaret????

A walk towards a wet bit, but with no moist moments, Altham all the way.

Had a bit of an panoramic experiment, 11 shots @ 180mm, full size jpg was just short of 38MB so took a bit of a hit quality wise to get it down to 500KB.

I don't know how the miss spelling of great Orme escaped me.
I put Greta Orme twice.

Thanks for the kind remarks Msrgaret.

You are welcome Russell...thankyou for the trip down memory lane.
I liked that you called the Great Orme (which means big worm) into a seductive sounding female(Greta Orme)

Just for you Margaret.

Yes, It is a lovely view from the sea.
I once took both tinlids out on a boat trip.......but my hands were taken up making sure they didn't jump ship so I was not able to photograph that view.
Did you see any seals while you were offshore......we saw a couple of them, but as I say I had to keep a tight rein on the children......so no pics of them either.
