Sarky old git.
The Turntable Ladder is a Metz on a Leyland chassis, bought by Accy Corporation in 1938, taken over by Lancashire when the County
Brigade was form in 1948. I did my first T.L. training on that machine, it was then moved to Nelson & is now in a London museum.
The next T.L. was a Merry Weather on a Leyland chassis powered by a Meadows engine. The 577 YTD Emergency Tender we called it the bread van, I've operated all the Escapes & Water Tenders, then the first Hydraulic Platform up until 1983. Its surprising how many of the registration plate numbers I'd forgotten. Bit sad to see them in scrap yards rusting away, especially after all the hours we spent keeping them gleaming.

I remember the 50s-style fire engines at Oswaldtwistle Fire Station when I was a child. The siren used to sound and the firemen would run out of their houses, sometimes in slippers. As the appliance left the station they were scrambling on board and quickly pulling on their uniforms over their clothes. It used to seem so exciting!
