Horse Shoe Pub
 

This is a picture I kept from the Observer, showing the Horse Shoe Pub, corner of School Street and Crawshaw Street. I grew up in the house next door to the Pub.. the area was demolished around 1964 and is now the new Bus Station..

was my local the shoe as we called it back then. doug was landlord he took a pub in darwen after as i recall.

Went down to dougs pub a few times he was a top landlord.im near sure twas in Darwen but my memories crap these days. cant even remember the name of his new pub,

yep eddie @ Joyce had that when i went in. but my favourite after doug left was The Black Bull.

I used to sup in the Horseshoe around the late 60,s and 70,s. Stan Hindle was my drinking buddy. He lived next door at the time. Philamenia lived next to Stan, she was a pianist (not bad when sober) Ted Sharpes, another drinking buddy lived next to her. I can't remember the landlords name but I never went in again after he refused to serve me after a slight misunderstanding.

The landlords name in the 60s was Definately DOUG its just come to me, he was a top landlord was dark skinned. he took a pub in darwen when he came out, we used to go over yon, cos he was a great bloke. cant remember the name of the pub he took may have been The Pineapple but not sure.
