Yes, frozen this morning - try telling a four year old boy that he can't have cereal because there's no milk when you're holding two bottles of the stuff!

My milkman does not now work Sat/Sun, so requested not to leave me 3 pints on Fridays .. too much and finish up chucking one down the sink.

Opened front door Friday and oh no ! 1 litre in a plastic container ... he must have puzzled on what to leave me.

Is this some new rule now ? How am I going to cope with this measurement wondering how much I will need to cover my cereal !! Also, the notes I leave him (never reads anyway) to show don't require anything on a particular day just won't sit well in a plastic bottle .. goin' to blow away, 'aint it ??

Start of a new era then ? :(

Your mum is correct Tinkerbelle. In those days you could also leave the milk money in an empty bottle on the doorstep and no one would nick it.

Sadly the ‘fresh’ milk of today is not a patch on what we used to get. And that’s not warm memories speaking. In the forties and fifties there would be at least three inches of cream at the top and if you could gather enough you could make butter from it. Today you are lucky to get an inch of insipid cream. Short of going to the farm you cannot get green top anymore.

I still get my milk delivered in glass bottles to my doorstep but to help keep the delivery costs down I get 2 on a Monday and four on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 40p per pint. My milk lady collects the cash once every FIVE WEEKS on a Friday evening. At least it is as close to real milk as you can get these days so it is worth the price. It is far better than that homogenised white water in plastic containers that passes for milk these days.
