There was a children's TV "soap", alongside The Groves, called "The Appleyards". I used to watch it around the same time as "Whirligig" with Humphrey Lestocq and that dreadful puppet with all the strings showing, was it Mr Turnip? Sorry we're back in the days of Muffin The Mule (hideous and useless) now. :D

We got our first telly in 1952, the year before the coronation. The screen was only 9", in a polished wood cabinet that took up nearly a whole corner of the room, and programmes were only on for about 2 hours a day. :D

Talking of Wagon Train, wasn't Ward Bond the Big Boss? Then there was Rawhide which set Clint Eastwood on the road to fme and fortune, does anybody remember the cook in that program was a cantankerous sod, if there was a remake JB could audition for the part:D

We got a 9" Bush TV set for the coronation.......we all gathered round and sat in the darkened room to watch it.......we had to stand for the National Anthem.......and when the TV programs were over(they were only on at set times then), my mother used to cover the TV with a table cloth to prevent it getting scratched, bumped or whatever by us rambunctious children.
Ah....takes me back!

Remember the Saturday matinees o.k. - but do you remember the song?

"We come along on Saturday morning, greeting everybody with a smile.
We come along on Saturday morning, laa..laa..laa ???

I do believe there were two versions!
