Issac - I saw him today sitting on the steps of the library. Not looking as well as he used to. I gave him a treat, to get a brew - hope he did! :-)

Re: Years Gone By
What happened to the knife grinders that used to come around the streets, did they withdraw licences due to Health and Safety .. Or perhaps we are too well off now to get a knife sharpened, and just go out and buy a new one ? Or maybe everything is cut up for us now in packaged containers ?

I had a 'butcher's steel', but left that job to darwendosser because he once was a butcher boy at Slingers, and I never got the knack of using it. Now I have an electric knife. |

Me, too. Flash Gordon. We used to sing-'Is everybody happy, yes.
Do we ever worry, no. To the odeon we have come. now we're all together we can have some fun. Do we wever worry, no! Do we help our neighbours, yes. We're a hundred thousand strong, so how can we all be wrong As members of the O C C (Odeon Cinema Club) we stress Is everybody happy? Yeeeeeeeees. came the resounding roar from all the children. I just loved it. Happy memories. |

My son has returned from India with cigarettes called "Biri" -apparently they cost the equivalent of 30 eurocents for a packet of 25. God knows what's in them but he seems to like them!

I remember Blower's. One of the cheapest shops in Accy. Used to shop there and then go on to redman's and get fish paste and oven bottom muffins. Had two brothers who worked at Bridges fireplaces. Baileys was where the money flew about the chop over your head in little cups. Loved it. Happy days.

Re: Years Gone By
Used to shop for vegies at Catlows and had a crush on the elder brother. Vegies were fresh and a good price. Put together with a leg of lamb from in the market hall with some oxo gravy-oh, boy!

The Coop at the corner of dutton st was formerly Woolies , they used to fire cash up brass tubing on the ceiling used to fascinate me as a kid. Then went to Moffat's with mum and as somebody said on here they had things on wires with the cash in flying around. Used to go to the Coop for milkchecks upstairs they sold furniture up there.
