I had heard of this before xmas I was running XP so I decided up grade to Windows 8 which only cost £41, better than buying a new laptop, which all have 8 installed on them.

98 may have appeared ok in its day but would be almost useless now.

I was a big fan of XP and am still forced to use it with some work applications but 7 is better in my opinion. Its faster booting makes it worth having if only for that.
