X-Box help required.

I'm hoping that someone on Accyweb can help me.

I am wanting to make a 15M lead to link together 2 X-Boxes for someone. I have the ethernet cable, the RJ 45 connectors and the crimping tool. What I need to know is; does the cable connect pin to pin, or is there a crossover needed on some of the cores?

I don't have an interlink cable, so I'm not in a position to test it with a multi-meter.

Have a look at this link:
http://www.lanshack.com/make-cat5E.asp

You need to make a crossover cable for just 2 xboxes. As the page mentions wire one end in 568b and the other in 568a to make the crossover :)

Have fun!

I'm not pinching your thread but I am after a bit of info too, what do I need to connect an Xbox to the internet with a wireless network and are all routers compatible? I have a netgear DG834GT

You'll need a straight cable going straight into your router. Not all routers are compatible but there may be a firmware upgrade to make it compatible. Check the website for your router and see what it says.. I have an old d-link router and it needed its firmware upgrading to work with xbox..

So is wireless a no-go then?

No, I would think you certainly can go wireless, I can't help you there though. Only my laptops are wireless.

You can get access points that can be used as a wireless client. You plug in your ethernet device and it allows it to connect wirelessly to another access point. The Dlink DWL-2000AP+ can be used as a wireless client.

Is this the peice of kit I need? Click here
and will 54Mbps be Ok? everything else is on 108

Re: X-Box help required.

Considering your broadband is nowhere near 54mbps it should in theory do fine. Beware though that if you intend to have someone surfing, someone gaming and your pcs are also talking to each other over wireless, your access point may well become maxed out and this will result in slowdown. Also remember even though it says 54mbps / 108 or whatever they only perform like that in labaratory conditions :) Personally for a games system that requires as best performance as you can get I would cable it to the router.

I agree with you on that Roy. I still think you can't do better than to cable the network. Wireless has its uses, laptops and hard to wire places etc.

Don't forget SO's that don't like wires and cables! Most important these!

Exactly! thats why it has to be wireless, I dont want to wrap a wire round the street to get it to the other side of the house and upstairs as well, the wire certainly isn't going to be trailed through it :)

I got 2 options
1 connect wireless
2 dont connect to xbox live
personally I aint bothered which as its not for me, option 3 of connecting wired doesn't come into it
