Norton security upgrade

Hi
My security is about to run out on my computor, so to get it up and running again quickly, I can download it off the net, this saves me hunting round the shops tommorrow. The Problem that I have is the file size can anybody tell me what 42050k bytes is in Mega bytes has I don,t want to go over my download limit, which is 500mb or should I just be patient and go to the shops and buy the package.

Re: Norton security upgrade

its 41.06 mb 1 mb = 1024kb
if your on broadband it wont take long i have just downloaded a program that was 695mb which took 1h 30mins
another idea is to use AVG which is free with free updates from

Re: Norton security upgrade

it also depends on who you are

e.g. technically
a bit is a 1 or zero
a byte is 8 bits(over 8 is called a 'word', 4 bits is called a 'nibble') Data transmission is measured in KiloBits/sec(kbps, note small k)
a kilobyte(Kb) is 1024 bytes (2^10)(note big K)
a Megabyte(Mb) is 1024 Kb (again 2^10)
a Gigabyte(Gb) is 1024 Mb

etc

However when you buy Hard drives for example they class a Gb as 1000 Mb

so a 80 Gb Hard disk is actually only 78 1/4 Gb, then you format it and lose a bit more :)

Re: Norton security upgrade

I downloaded Norton about 3 weeks ago and it is cr@p. My computer has been running extremely slowly ever since. I have plenty of space left on it, so that is not the problem. When the new Norton is scanning my e mail, the computer will not do anything else, it is extremely slow with microsoft word and powerpoint. Don't waste your money Expat.....

I must admit as a techie I don't like Norton products. They are resource hungry beasts that are very tightly integrated to your system. You will find it very hard to remove all traces of them once installed.

I've never had any problems after installing Zone Alarm and AVG on innumerable PCs and can't understand why people pay good money for products that do the same job.

free Norton ran fine for me but McAfee was a big steaming pile. AVG recommended to me at work and now downloaded. Removed an infected file that McAfee was unable to move for the last two months
