No Sound
Can anybody help me please (this may get a little long winded, so i apologize in advance). I recently got a virus on my pc, so had to format the hard drive. After re-installing my copy of XP home & my broadband stuff, i somehow ended up with the same virus, so i formatted & re-installed everything again . The same thing happened again (this happened 5 times), so i installed a copy of XP Professional & this time Zone Alarm & AVG instead of the "Talktalk" security that i had on before. Everything is now runnig smoothly except for my XP is un-registered (which i can sort out), & i have no sound whatsoever. Has anybody got any idea's as to why my sound doesn't work? I've connected earphones to the back of my pc, & still nothing so i know it's not a speaker problem. I don't know whether i have "on-board" sound, or a separate sound card. I try not to go inside my pc for obvious reasons.

Re: No Sound
You probably need to install the drivers for teh sound card. Windows doesn't identify a lot of sound cards automatically.

Re: No Sound
I was hoping to fix the problem without formating again. I checked the devise manager, the only thing an exclamation mark next to it is my 56k modem. When formating what size partition is recommended & does it matter if its "fat32" or "ntsc"?

Re: No Sound
There is no reason to reformat or even to reinstall, its just a config issue.
Do you know what sound card you have? Try installing teh drivers anyway, I've seen windows suddenly remember that it has a sound card when prompted by the drivers. You didn't mention if the sound card is listed or not in device manager? You have checked that teh mixer isn't muted I hope? |

Re: No Sound
The soundcard is there (Creative SB Live Value (WDM)) plus teh gameport etc.
Open teh sound mixer and make sure that all teh sliders are up and that none of teh mute boxes are ticked. |
Re: No Sound
Actually just noticed, You seem to have two sound cards there, the SIS one as well, try plugging into the other soundcard ouputs(teh SIS oen is probably an onboard soundcard)

Re: No Sound
Just tried disabling both sound cards (1 at a time obviously) to see if that worked. Still nothing. This is sooooooooooooooo annoying.
