F.A.O entwisi

Hiya chuck, had loads of probs with that laptop over Christmas. Instead of sending a brand new one they just fitted a new motherboard that lasted for one day then died again :( The thing is they have offered to now send a brand new one but I don't know whether to tell them to stuff their laptop and shop else where. Can you pretty please have a look at the spec on these 2 laptops and tell me which is the best :) They are both Acer Aspire series

Are the processors on both laptops the same???? Intel Pentimium M 1.7 Ghz & the AMD Turion mk36 ???

Re: F.A.O entwisi

I could not comment on the speed difference in the CPU's.

Laptop 1 has twice the memory as laptop 2.

Re: F.A.O entwisi

CPU and Gfx chip on second far better, HD same, memory , cheap to upgrade,

If it was me Laptop 2. (mem is a LOAD easier and cheaper to upgrade than teh CPU and Gfx.)

Plus IIRC with media centre you should get a free upgrade to Vista (if you want it) in March/April ish

It's Microsofts newest version of screwing up your PC, the successor to XP :D

Cheers for the info guys.

I know and trust Intel, what's this AMD Turion like?

Also the OS is Windows XP Media Edition on Laptop 2. What's that like, I'm only use to XP home?

I only use it for the internet and music, is the difference in memory likely to affect my usage?

I'd wait a year until lots of bugs are found if I was you, unless you're dieing to get it installed

Re: F.A.O entwisi

For a non technical user I'd upgrade, They have been pushed to make it harder for hackers and phishing attacks so it will be of greater value.

For absolute stability most paople wait for SP1 however they have really pushed the beta testing program this time so hopefully it will be better than XP/Me etc were.

Tinks, AMD turion is 64 bit for a start, personally I like AMD CPUS, you tend to get more bang for your buck. With INtel you pay for a name and that silly ping ping ping ping adverts!
