Trojan.Peacomm
Hope someone can help. Have had a message from Norton regarding trojan.peacomm saying my pc is not protected against these rapidly spreading threats. Have done everything it's asked me to but still keep getting the same message up. Has anyone any advice please.

Re: Trojan.Peacomm
don't open any emails with an attachment even if you know the person who sent it unless you are expecting the attachment, apparently it comes as an attachment.
If you get it, it sets up your pc as a spam relay using udp port 4000, if you use a router make sure that port is blocked that'll hamper the little ******. Imho norton is about as bad as it gets, it makes your pc super slow whilst not really giving you full protection, i swapped to mcafee last year and found 2 backdoors that norton missed. |
Re: Trojan.Peacomm
Thanks, i never open e-mails with attachments learnt my lesson a couple of years ago. My Norton doesn't run out until June, so it's a thought to change to another virus protection. Once again thanks.

Re: Trojan.Peacomm
This gives you some information about the wee beastie.
Basically just avoid opening anything if you're not expecting it and don't know what it is. |
Re: Trojan.Peacomm
Norton is a virus.:D
I would Uninstall and run AVG free version or at least disable the Norton and run a FREE Virus scanner with a different provider. |
Re: Trojan.Peacomm
Yep I agree Norton is pants.
It used to be very good but went downhill a few years ago. It really does slow your PC down as well. |
Re: Trojan.Peacomm
i tend to use housecall from trendmicro as an extra check.
not often but just everynow and then, its free and comes by the way of an activex control. housecall link to the left!! |
Re: Trojan.Peacomm
and more and more join in the chorus "Norton is crap"
|
Re: Trojan.Peacomm
I'll join that chorus.

Re: Trojan.Peacomm
I hate Norton, but have to use it for work. It drives me insane.
 |
Re: Trojan.Peacomm
Could get paranoid here, feel as though you're all shouting at me for having Norton (writing this whilst weeping.) Seriously though thanks for all your replys, just switched pc on and the message aint there anymore.

Re: Trojan.Peacomm
I used Norton for about three years and then my computer had to go into the shop last year as it was poorly, sick and bad. The man who can added AVG for me and it seems ok. It does an automatic check each morning and I seem to be sorted.

Re: Trojan.Peacomm
junetta, you'll probably find if you look closely that its not a check it does (apart from initial DOS bootup) its a download of definitions. IIRC by default it scans once a week.

Re: Trojan.Peacomm
Mine does an update every morning. It did do a daily scan but that drove me up the wall so I stopped it.

Re: Trojan.Peacomm
every install I've seen (And I've installed it on loads ) does an initial boot sector scan, nothing more before it starts to load Windows then it does a definition update. It certainly doesn't scan the disks at startup

Its a full scan also as it take around 50 Mins + If It is stopped though and you turn your PC on & off it will not scan again until a long time period has passed (not sure what this is) |
