How to connect a laptop to LCD?
 

Hello,
I have had Sky for yonks but just signed up to Sky anytime on-line(that one where you can play movies at anytime on your pc). Works fine. Thought it would be a good idea to get a cable from the lap top to my LCD. Did that (one of those with pins each end) connected it and ....nothing. Restarted the laptop in the hope it would sense a new device - but nothing.
Any ideas, help and advice would be much appreciated!

Does your laptop not have an s-video out you could use?

Instead of using the vga?

you might have to select your laptop to use the svga output. Look on your function keys, is there a picture that looks like a monitor? if so you usually select the output by pressing the function key ( F or FN or Func ) and pressing the correct F key at the same time.

You will need to select the correct input on the TV with the remote as well.

Cheers people... Yes there is a monitor picture on F5. So just to be clear what is the "svga" output - is that the pinned wire between the laptop and TV?

Apparently Frames, you could try connecting the laptop headphone socket to the LCD screen audio IN connection, using a stereo audio cable, with jack plugs at each end (probably 3.5mm).

Actually its just called VGA or Dsub 15, SVGA is a specific resolution of screen ( VGA is also but the plug took its name as well)

The audio in on the screen will usually be phono plugs and really you should put a 47Kohm resistor inline of the signal. if you are careful you can just start the volume low and bring it up to about half way on teh lappy then adjust from there using the TV. Personally I would feed it staright into a hifi seeing as even modern LCD Tvs have cheap speakers inside.
