Re: Why would my pc be asking.....

If your computer started then re-started before the Bios handed over to windows, the bios thinks you have tried to alter some settings, and they have failed.
It wants you to check the bios settings then try again.

If you're not sure how the bios settings work, then just press F1, then in the bios settings screen, you can try to SAVE then EXIT (this will most probably work).
If it doesn't then you can choose LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS, (this will load the fail safe settings, but will probably have an impact on performance)

Asus mainboards have this feature to stop you killing the board, with over-the-top performance settings.

Could it be that the button battery on the mainboard needs replacing?

What is the exact message it says? Does it mention any other keys beside F1?

The automatic keyboard loneliness routine causes this, as the F1 key is rarely used it needs to be pushed at least once a month just to confirm that its working properly, obviously your keyboard feels left out & wants it pushing even more. :clown: :D

Chances are that you need to go into your CMOS/BIOS and save it (F10) then continue. Have you changed something recently before this started?

The hard drive

The F1 should no longer feel left out, wish it would just be happy with what it gets:p

Do you have a floppy drive installed. if so check there is no disk in.
If you don't have a floppy drive, then your BIOS will be looking for the floppy as a first boot option.
If you feel comfortable, you can alter the boot sequence, change the first boot device to hard drive, then save and exit. Don't change any other settings unless you know what they are for.
If you are still struggling you'll need to tell us what brand of bios you have. This will have a logo at the start. probably Phoenix or Award. Then somebody will tell you where exactly the boot settings are.

Your BIOS is detecting a mis match.

have you tried going into it & just saving it with the newly detected drive in yet?

While its booting press "F2" or "Del" key when it asks (just after the single beep).
autodetect your hard drive, then press F10 & save.
