windows help

anyone fancy coming round to sort this bloody pc out for me?

its poorly and its doing my nut in

i'm not using ie at the moment, i'm ATTEMPTING to use firefox (when it works) in the evening for some reason it buggers up a lot and tries to go through ask. com (which incidently i dont even have installed on my pc)

its hard to explain but it does my head in, i'll go to firefox and type in the website or click on my favourites and it goes to that stupid website

i think all it needs is windows completely taking off and re-installing, i have a windows disc here., think my pc just needs some sort of servicing....before i kick it

Mine did the same this morning Flashers, and wont connect to my usual homepage, which is bt yahoo, so could be an ie or yahoo problem I think. And no sooner have I typed this, than it has now connected!!

Is it a Dell or Compaq or HP and does it have a model name an number?

I ask because it might have a built in recovery partition or you may be able to download a recovery disk to put it back to how it was when it was new.

Mick 08-05-2009 08:47

Re: windows help

or you could just go to a restore point before all this happened

Re: windows help

I have lost Mozilla too, but could be something else .. have uninstalled and reinstalled, but no luck .. tells me 'Proxy server refused connection'. No trouble on IE or Opera ... so may not be similar.

Re: windows help

mine asked me to update last week and brought up a totally different 'connect' box after i'd updated it, J thought thats why mine was naffing up(because of the update) and he uninstalled it for me and then re-did it...and its still naffed

Mine did the update n it did the same. I unstaled it and reinstalled to the original version. The modem asked again for the update but i snoozed it for the max 3 days and keep doing it. Dont know why but it seems the update is incompatable with the old modem that run with the orange bars. Tried to mail 3 to get an answer that but still waiting. Was the uninstall don with the modem still in because if not it does not uninstall properly as I found out to my cost. Once done while in it should go back to factory settings.

Re: windows help

Firefox rules.. never use IE
Modems suck, get a router... hopefully from ISP(so you can get support), who you with?

I would just reinstall system... good to do it quite often anyway, especially on older systems that start getting a bit laggy. I googled Compaq 6s27kn9zb002 and all i got back was this thread hehe

why are you getting ask.com ? Have you got any toolbars(ask.com) on your firefox?

flashy 10-05-2009 17:09

Re: windows help

if i knew why i was getting ask .com i'd get rid of it wouldnt i, i havent even got ask .com installed on my pc, been to add/remove several times looking for it and its not there

Mick 10-05-2009 17:11

Re: windows help

Flashy ask.com is a website you dont install it
its another search engine type of site

flashy 10-05-2009 17:19

Re: windows help

you can install it as a task bar though Mick, like google

Mick 10-05-2009 17:27

Re: windows help

yes i do know that but you already said you have not done that so what are your home pages set at and do you have more than one home page set check you have not set tab browsing to ask .com as your second tab

you can have your explorer "hijacked"..your home page may not change but when you search the only response is a set website such as ASK..it's not windows that is mis-directing your searches it's the explorer you are using.

flashy 10-05-2009 19:01

Re: windows help

google Mick

Mancie 10-05-2009 19:45

Re: windows help

go into control panel.. internet options/security/restricted sites/sites/ and type in ask .com/..then do the same for any site you are re-directed to....it's hassle but worth a try.

flashy 10-05-2009 19:57

Re: windows help

just done that, cheers Mancie, i'll see if it has worked or not if it naffs up again, your a good un :)

Restless 10-05-2009 19:59

Re: windows help

ask.com isnt a malicious site though... i dont get why that is happening... mancies right, perhaps a hijack or a virus causing it

flashy 10-05-2009 20:00

Re: windows help

just closed this page then tried bringing firefox back up and guess where it went....ask.com, checked to see if it was on the list on the restricted sites and it hasnt even registered :(

Mancie 10-05-2009 20:14

Re: windows help

It sounds like a real mash up Flashy..have you tried going back and using IE? the internet options might only work for windows IE.. there is an app called hijackthis that can sort out this sort of aggro but it needs to be downloaded.. anyway it's here

Trend Micro HijackThis - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

flashy 10-05-2009 20:34

Re: windows help

thats the other thing Mancie, i dont have IE anymore, i deleted it a while back

the ask .com thing doesnt happen all the time, it just seems to do it more in the evening
