FCUnited

Angered at Malcolm Glazer's takeover of Manchester United, a breakaway group of fans have formed their own club and have been accepted into England's North West Counties League. The club - FC United - is set to begin play in August at the Butcher's Arms in Droylsden, a ground in greater Manchester that has a capacity of about 3,500. A group of more than 2,500 fans have pledged their financial support to the new team, which will compete in what essentially is the bottom-rung division of English soccer.

Interviews for manager of FC United have begun and player try-outs are set for June 26. Although it's considered ``non-league'' play, there already is talk of the club jumping to a higher division because large crowds are expected for its inaugural season. There even have been rumors of two former Manchester United players agreeing to suit up for the rebel club.

Meanwhile, after 14 years as a publicly traded company, Manchester United is expected to be delisted from the London Stock Market on Wednesday. Next Monday, Glazer is likely to announce he has passed ownership of 97.6 % shares, the threshold that would grant him a forced buy- out of the remaining shareholders.

After reading the story above Isn’t funny how acronyms tell their own story?
The Manchester Evening News, or the MEN as they like to be known, have been reporting on the Manchester United saga with views from the Independent Manchester United Supporters Association (
IMUSA) who are apparently against the Glazer takeover despite having the acronym IMUSA (or I’M USA).
Now a new team called Football Club United, or FCU as they might want Malcolm Glazer to read it.
However, as soon as Glazer looked like he had Man U in the bag the disappointed Football Club United protesters went ahead with the formation of a new club called Football Club United of Manchester, or FCUM.

The message here:
IMUSA MEN? FCUM!:)

Glazer's United Is Delisted

After 14 years as a publicly traded company, the English soccer team Manchester United was delisted from the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday. The move comes as a result of the club's takeover by Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Malcolm Glazer.

Glazer can now begin a compulsory buyout of the remaining shares once the extended offer period of $5.40 a share is reached Monday night.

So much for all those Scum supporters that wouldn't sell, he now owns over 90%.

Re: FCUnited

I think they knew exactly what they where doing when they decided on the new name...Merchandising FCUM should be easy...FCUK managed it

As for the whole FCUM thing.. it could be the best thing to happen to the lower leagues.. If gates are as anticipated then it can only be good... I hope great harwood get them early on.. what a boost to the club that would be..

I will be missing the accy v cardif friendly in favour of photographig FCUMs first ever game. a friendly at LeighRMI... Then again I wasn't that interested in ours anyways.. Not a big fan of friendlies ... Smiths testimonial and the burnley game are the only interesting ones for us IMHO.. But the FCUM one could be historic

Like everything Scum supporters get involved with it will die a death, when they find out its not as bad as the 10 or so anti Glazer people said they will all be there on the glory hunting band wagon, back in McDonalds Trafford with their new Home shirts for the months of Sept/Oct and a back order of the away shirts for Christmas presents. There might be fewer Central Londoners as Chelski are doing well but they will be plenty of south coast and Essex people around.

Re: FCUnited

Yeagh thats kinda why I mentioned an hopefully early game for Harwood and most other clubs would hope for an early game.. before the bubble bursts..

Tickets now on sale for the friendly on the 23rd July.. Afc Wimbledon v FCUM ...... and so it begins..

Re: FCUnited

Well I take it back.. I dont think the bubble will burst and I think FCUM will be a big shot in the arm for NWCL2 and clubs like Great Harwood will benefit.. if the crowds are anything near expected then it could ensure harwoods survival

Its looking like the droylsden groundshare is off.... burys gigg lane looks likely.

Nice Pics Tony :) (especially the one off a few fans walking away with"fc united, our team, our game" on his back) :)

What support ;) If they carry on like that they will have SO much more money than other teams around them.....surely they must make good progress....

Gigg Lane will be glad of some extra income too....
