Just stating a fact..Barcelona FC have have an almost mythical status...but they are useless in European football comeptitions.

although not a barcelona fan i think they are an excellent team

besides the football i actualy like how the place is run

the fans own the team and each season ticket holder gets a vote on any big decisions that the club has to make , they realy are a team of the fans unlike most big clubs out there which bleed their fans for every penny they can get out of them

i cant see any russian or american billionairs getting their hands on barcelona any time soon

They have won the Champions league twice,the cup winners cup four times,the european super cup twice and the inter cities fair trophy four times.
Domestically they have won the league 18 times and the spanish cup 24 times!
They were runners up in the champions league 3 times, the cup winners cup twice etc...
And they have won loads more,too many to mention!
They play a wonderful brand of football IMO and are rightly one of the biggest clubs in the world!
Man Utd don't have the monopoly on greatness you know!

Before anyone starts flashing red cards because I dont shout for an English Team, in this case Chelsea, I live in Spain and the only time that I would support an English team playing Barca that would be Blackburn Rovers, who, in their last meeting beat Barca 3 - 1. :)

Wouldn't give you a hard time for backing the Catalans Royboy, there's enough of the top 4 English clubs ruining domestic football nevermind Europe :)

I used to watch Barca games regularly and when the current team are in attack they remind me of the strength they had about ten years ago - with Luis Enrique, Kluivert, Rivaldo, Giovanni, etc. However with Puyol playing very poorly of late they're weak at the back. Rafael Marquez isn't the player he used to be, though Pique is promising. They haven't got a Frank De Boer or a Phil Cocu to do the gritty work.

They're not really the best in Europe, but I'd put money on this season's competition saying otherwise.

i would say they are a damn good footballing side no question, but will go further than shaker, they are a bunch of tarts, who whinged and whined everytime there was a tackle the other night, says me who dislikes chelsea.

they done Madrid 2-6 last night..now does that say they are the best in Europe ..or does it say the Spanish league is not as good as the Prem?... i say the Prem is the best league in Europe and having 3 English teams in the semis of the champions league for the last 2 years makes it clear.

Very lucky wasn't it, for Barca.

I don't think Chelsea should have had the 'three clear penalties' they're claiming (maybe one call was dubious), and the sending off of Abidal was odd. However it's evident that Barca just aren't the best in Europe. If it's down to all-round football rather than the results of this dodgy competition, they're probably just inside the top four (behind Chelsea, United and Liverpool). A couple of decent defenders (not midfielders pushed back into centre half a la Marquez & Toure) will make them a truly memorable side next year.

I really hope they win in the final, but I challenge their right to be there on merit. I think they're really going to struggle against United.

Now I saw them and there were definate penalties. the first handball incident was so blatant and stopped a clear opportunity on goal. Drogbas bringing down in teh area was clear with the shirt being pulled obvious to ref and linesman. The last one is given 95% of the time and defenders know that they can't go in with their arms up like that.

In all And I'm no Chelsea fan they were robbed by an incompetant ref and linesman.

However, I see Drogba and Ballack getting battered by the authorities for their outbursts and whoever on the BBC thought cutting to a clearly very upset Drogba with sound on wants sacking, what do they think he was likely to be saying " Oh deary deary me we are out?"

I think the Refs the worst I've seen at top level footy, he got every major decision wrong including the sending off, but at least Platini has got his wish no all Prem final. Just a thought wonder what would have happened if that ref had been in charge of United and made a string of cock-ups against United, not worth thinking about really:rolleyes

I can have no complaints...........The spoiling tactics worked in Barcelona but not at Chelsea.
Barca had 69% of the play with no ducking and diving.
Chelsea could not beat Barca in open play, why should they always (Not just this game) rely of the ref to give all decisions in their favour?
To my mind Barca won on merit and put in place a very good final match. :)

The game is not about fancy footing it about in mid field. Its about kicking it into teh goal . Barca were abysmal in the last third and the 1st third.

Quite simply Chelsea could have come away from that game 6 - 1.

I don't feel sorry for Chelski..they got beat in the last minute..it's happend to other teams over recent years...have to say the worst decision in the game was the ref giving a free kick for a foul that was cleary inside the penalty area...no matter were you were viewing it from it was insde by more than a yard.

Think the worst one was the hand ball my that ex-United lad, he took the lace out of it and gave it a good polishing it was that blatant, but what went on after was a disgrace and I think Chelski my live to regret it very soon

Yeah agree with you there John,the Pique incident was blatant.I also admit to feeling sorry for Chelski even though I dont like them.They made a very good side look very ordinary,keeping them down to one attempt on target all night,Chech not having to make a save.Wouldnt want to be in Drogba's shoes now,think he is going to be made to suffer now probably along with Ballack.

I think the maximum he can be fined is 2 weeks wages entwisi, its how many games he'll be band from European games that will decide if he stays at Chelski or not, whey'll want a goal scorer on the field not sat in the stands

a six month ban would be over the top..Drogba did lose it with the ref but similar stuff has gone on without talk of six months, Chelsea's captian John Terry didn't hold back either in fact most of the team got involved.
I reckon the powers that be should be looking in the direction of punishment for Chelsea FC if they have such unruly playing staff.

just watching the behavior of Drogba and co again on Sky...Paul Merson has just pionted out that the previous evening Fletcher got a dubious red card and misses the final.... he must have been even more gutted than Drogba but he simply walks off...no antics, no waving arms around..complete contrast to Chelski players.

Surely the rules need changing. The side who actually win through outright in the semi's should be given a 2 goal start in the final against a side who scraped through on away goals.

Okay I'll admit it, I didn't think of the above, I was just pre-empting the thoughts of those who would prefer to see rule changes made at the end of a season instead of the beginning ;)

Before kick-off I thought the game was United's to lose. Man Utd have without a doubt the better all-round team, which is always pretty useful, and the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo should've run rings around what is ultimately a weak Barça defence. However the mental approach was clearly weak as after the first goal went in, all hunger was lost.
The second goal saw two of the best defenders in the world look utterly lost as a 5ft7 winger looped a header over a goalkeeper who set new clean-sheet records this season.
Everyone was expecting some special fightback from United. Is Ferguson losing his touch?

Best side won it, and Iniesta was head and shoulders above anyone. Wastes very little, picks key passes and dictates games. He and Xabi controlled the midfield and were given far too much time to dictate and they made both goals. I don't recall the Barcelona defence been stretched at all after the first ten minutes and the only reason they didn't absolutely murder Man U was because they had the Arsenal disease of trying to walk the ball into the net.

I think tonight showed just how good an effort Chelsea's was over 2 games to almost prevent them scoring. Tonight could easily have been a couple of goals worse for United.

Unfortunately United forgot to turn up last night, Ronaldo was on a one man mission to see if he could break the record for the most shots off target in a European Cup Final, if he'd have though to pass occasionally instead of blazing wide or over the top, it might have helped. After the first 10 minutes they just weren't at the races. But like United fans are always tell the Scousers there's always next year:D

Spot on Jaysay, and agree with theprisoner regarding Iniesta, I think he was man of the match, unless you take scoring into account, in which case it would be Messi, the only United player to come close to earning his coin was Tevez, who worked hard, if Ronaldo learns to pass, and Scholes finally realises that he cant tackle, they may have the ability to change a game.

Really enjoyed seeing United's nose put well out of joint last night - Ferguson didn't even commiserate with his players, you could tell he was bloody livid with them. Agree with others, after the first 10 minutes they weren't even at the races. Well done Barcelona!
