Re: World Cup Thread
It was an horrendous display of non football from England. They cannot play simple football, can't seem to pass to each other and their defence was atrocious and that's from me who knows nothing about football

Re: World Cup Thread
Aye, true - but not only that you will see a far higher standard of football than that displayed by those wastrels yesterday. A bunch of drunks in the pub carpark would play better than that lot .
Their cowardice does not end there, however. They have now chosen to arrive back at Heathrow on a BA flight with ETA 6.20 tomorrow morning. I'm tempted to pop over there to greet them. The final insult is that they are due to be processed through the VIP lounge at T5..this is sickening. However, I did predict this - see my first post on the world cup bet thread and I will now make repeat that prediction and say they will not exactly be cordially welcome. |

As bad as England were and there's no argument there, the worst team by far are those incompetent whistle happy, card waving wastes of skin in the middle. As a spectator, this is the worst world cup ever, spoiled by a bunch of idiots who have probably never played the game and think their job is to wave as many cards as possible and stop the game when ever one of the little boys roll over and cry.

I'm not a regular football fan I only really enjoy the world cup. So to me England always seem not to enjoy it, perhaps they are too arrogant and find it hard to play as a team? Also in this German game the defence was awful and England all seemed to be at the goal end and had to race back to defend. OK it's an overstatement that the disallowing of the 2nd goal ruined the game - but they could have come back in the 2nd half and done something to win but they didn't they played awfully. What happend to the defence? As far as this goal goes - it's a case of What goes around comes around and I think the 1966 goal may not have gone in - however this one most definately did! So perhaps it's the decision of God! England may be cowards? But I think the team is perhaps too arrogant and can't really play as a team. Also they may be disillusioned, not happy with management decisions, knackered after playing too much and over paid! Add them to the list! |

I don't know how many of you lot may have seen the pictures from Wooton Basset this evening. Earlier on, there was a debate going on in the editorial offices of some of the tabloid newspapers here (in Wapping & Canary Wharf) on split front pages showing the seven coming back from Afgan and those wastrels returning from SA. I don't yet know what the leads will be tomorrow morning.

Due to the abysmal display of England in the World Cup the FA to make amends have organised a friendly match England Vs Iceland, held at Wembley with free entry !! not only that but should the fixture prove a success Fabio Capelo has lined up 2 other matches against Asda & Tesco :D :D
Go on, I know you're grinning !!! |

There's no doubt it would have been a different 2nd half. What astounded me was that the ref went over to discuss the "goal" with the linesman and must have seen the ball cross the line on the big screen so why not give a goal? Everyone in the stadium and around the world Knew it should have counted so be a man and make the correct decision.

As for being "a man" perhaps that might be suggested to whining, petulant, big girl's blouses like Gerrard and his team mates. This match confirmed to me why I despise "big time" football with its plastic atmosphere...and plastic players. |
Re: World Cup Thread
Quite right Cashy except a decision is not final until the ref restarts the game, in this case until England had kicked off at the center circle, so, the ref could have reversed his decision when it became obvious that he had made a mistake.

Re: World Cup Thread
Uruguay v Ghana... total commitment from both teams.. no messing about.. no trying to slow down the game.. both teams ran and worked for 2 hours.. it was a shame there had to be a loser, all this from two sides that are ranked inferior to England.. I don't think so!

Its a bit like Misure Kilby down the Dingle Dome, for years he screamed how unfair the parachute payments were for teams being relegated from the Prem, seems to have gone rather quite on that score, the cash must be coming in handy to pay of the debts of is mate Mr Flood, believe only this week they have paid £5.5 million to MPR Marwick who are cleaning up mr floods failed business dealings;) |

What a load of cobblers. If I or any other Stanley fan wanted to watch premiership football, it'd be easy enough for us to go and watch it - after all there are plenty of premiership clubs around the North West. When will the likes of you and Mancie get it into your heads that not all of us want to watch football in the homogenised, artificial atmosphere that characterizes the present-day premiership? Perhaps, Jaysay, you might care to reflect on why a mutual friend of ours very rarely goes to Ewood now, but is there and loving it at every Stanley home match! |

The only thing I'm saying is if the product was so good, why aren't the gates closed every match, why is it that lots of local people prefer to carry on watching other teams who play in higher divisions rather than Stanley, its a matter of taste, I would never decry anybody going to watch Stanley or for that matter Ossy St Mary's over the White Ash on a Saturday, so really I don't take kindly to constantly hearing my team slagged of because they play in one of the best leagues in the world, and yes if I was fit I'd probably join cashy and yourself on the Clayton end for an odd match or two, but at least I get the next best thing and am able to watch MY team on TV occasionally, something which would rarely be afforded to me if I was a full blown Stanley Fan. Like most people I know who live around here and support the likes of Rovers Burnley, United, Liverpool etc treat Stanley as their second team, and also remember that in their time of need some of us even dug deep in our own pockets to support Stanley's fight with the taxman and would probably do it again;) |
Re: World Cup Thread

As for deriding the plastic, artificial atmosphere of the premier league, I'm just telling you what I think. The fact that hundreds of thousands of people turn up to watch matches in that league and less than two thousand turn up at Stanley every week means absolutely nowt to me. Millions of people watch soaps & reality TV programmes and buy hip hop/rap music but it sure as hell don't stop 'em all being total crap in my eyes! ;) |

Just read that Mani the Parakeet, working out of Singapore has predicted a Dutch victory:confused: Because my hopes are for the Orange, I think I'll change my mind and go with the bird:mosher: This will be better, because Canada has strong ties with the Dutch. They didn't get a chance to kick German ass (like the Canadians did in Holland in WW ll:theband:), but I'm hoping for a victory over the Spanish, whose only connection with Canada has involved being arrested for fishing in Canadian territorial waters.

But do you realise that NZ are the only undefeated team at the 2010 world cup ?? :) |
Re: World Cup Thread
This must have been the worst world cup, ever. Totally pathetic. I did not even bother watching the final - I went out down the road and watched the traffic lights change - far more exciting.
Lets just hope it does not happen in Africa again for a long, long time. |

Re: World Cup Thread
Well for a World Cup final, it was pretty poor to say the least & although I wanted Holland to win I'd say that Spain deserved it more, Holland were lucky to finish with 10 guys, it could've & should've been far fewer.
Ah well, all over bar the screaming & shouting now as to what went wrong & needs changing, still it's the Europeans in 2 years time. :D |

Its a pity the dutch had to put their national footwear on display for 120 minutes and in the end got their just desserts, at one stage I though they were far better than Ossy Cloggers, but their timing was way out:rolleyes:

Re: World Cup Thread
I'd say this final was as good as 2006.. apart from Zidanes head butt.. Holland looked out from the start and were knackerd after running around chasing the ball for 2hrs..the best team won.. Brazil v Germany final in 2002 was worse!

Re: World Cup Thread
Good to see that FIFA have come down hard on both teams;
World Cup winners Spain and their opponents Netherlands have been fined by Fifa for their players' poor discipline in July's final. Football's governing body fined the Dutch federation £9,080, while the Spanish association must pay £6,053. Presumably they will have a whip round amongst the players and fine them about 5 minutes wages to pay the fines !! |
