Maybe not stones, but a couple of smallish pebbles in light of my slips ! :D The point of it is, Effin & Jeffin will happen, it's a fact of life, how many times do you hear it on TV, down the Pub, at work, round the park ? Added to that some of them using it are kids as young as 6-7, let alone the older generation of professionals Male & Female, I myself am not averse to using offensive & abusive language at times.

But what Rooney did was in your face, pugnacious & intended to cause the maximum effect of reaction & as such he deserved to be punished & harshly. If you watch the footage you see him swear at the crowd (read the lips) that he'd have gotten away with as it's an everyday occurrence & you see it at many levels throughout the game but it wasn't directed at anyone in particular (Okay away fans) but it was lost on the crowd, but when he turned to look directly into the camera & repeat his epithet, then he crossed the line & action was bound to follow.

Ferguson has no room to bleat (at present serving a touchline ban) as you're aware Rooney has form & again Fergie isn't exactly whiter than white is he ? The expression lead by example comes to mind & if that's the case what example has fergie set ? Why hasn't he reigned Rooney in in the past ? No the lads an idiot & he's brought it on himself. Hopefully he'll learn his lesson & next time keep his mouth shut, failing that keep his "opinions" away from a camera.

If the other clubs can't stop them winning the Premiership - again, then the FA will certainly do their best to stop them.
May be a blessing in disguise for us - so 2 league matches out, but that means he will be fresh for the Champion's League matches - Champion's League Jay, realise you have never competed in that:rolleyes:, DinG's lot have though:D
No way you will be competing next year either Jay, might be in a fight to get out of the Championship, but then again, your lot could go into freefall:tongueout:tongueout:tongueout Is it the penultimate match when United could win the Premiership and Rovers could be relegated - that will be a match to watch;);):D:D

You cheeky sod:eek:, the scum have more matches given them by refs who are two frightened of upsetting that drunken Scots bloke, think they're usually good for 15 to 20 points a season, anyway looking forward to tonight's game, full house, passionate fans, a good unbiased ref and Lionel Messi too, should be a great match:tongueout:tongueout

Who knows? They certainly have the ability, but whether they do it or not is in the lap of the gods. Even if they don't make the play-offs, we'll be happy enough with our most successful season since the Galbraith era and guess what, Barrie?...not a writ in sight! It's great to see your hometown club do well.

Incidentally, Barrie, you'd have loved it in Piccadilly Gardens this afternoon. Plenty of plastics including some Japs, all dressed up like Christmas trees in nice, shiny new gear from the Theatre of Merchandising. That should help to pay off the debt!

Also got the winning habit with his football teams - even before United.

Wyn, they come from all over the world on one of the hospitality packages - I can't afford one.

I really do hope that Stanley are successful and then in another year we will be able to see Stanley beating Rovers - either in the Championship or in League 1 - but if Rovers go into free-fall they could easily be in the league below Stanley:eek::eek::D

Great result for your lot DinG, a late surge? It has also given the Council house Tenants possible problems for Saturday - can't understand how Balotelli was tactically substituted 7 minutes after going on???:????:D

Lucky enough to be sat in the Anny Road last night to watch a team click big time.

Suarez is a class apart and is already a big Kop Hero but this lad has the credentials and the tricks to be the best in the Premiership alongside Carroll Liverpool next season with a bit of strenghening in defence have a real chance of pushing on to challenge for honours.

A simple question who has the bigger re-building job in the Summer United or Liverpool?

The reason United have looked so good is by default, Arsenal blow hot and cold, Chelski, cocked up big style when they sacked Wilkins, everything went belly up after that, City for all their money do not play as a team, Liverpool made a big mistake when they appointed Hodson, they'd have been better keeping the fat waiter, Spurs were never going to be good enough and to Me those are the only clubs in with any realistic chance of winning the Prem.

I've seen some long winded explanations of why one team are the best in the league ( ie they have more points than anybody else ), that has to be up with best :D

But if you care to check the points total by the top team is well of what the norm is at this stage of the season, meaning nobodies playing to their full potential, certainly United aren't, in comparison to other seasons their away form is terrible.

Barrie Yates 13-04-2011 20:04

Re: Liverpool road to the title 2011

I have to admit that we are playing crap, so far below the standard which has become the norm since the formation of the Premier League - few glitches on the way when one or other team has excelled themselves for a short time.
However, if we are playing crap and are still top of the league, FA Cup and European Championship semi-finalists, then the other teams are even crappier, especially the local team that is dicing with relegation from the Premiership:tongueout
Stanley trying hard for the playoffs, Scousers making a late surge - well they have won the last match, but Rovers hoping that other teams slip up and allow them to stay in the Premiership - will the owners chicken out if they get relegated:eek:;):D:tongueout

Crap by our normal standards Mancie, fortunately not total crap for the whole of the games. A good job we aren't at our best or the bookies would already have paid out.
As for Jay's particular bete noir, well, think he is in double figures again - one of 4 players I think, how many teams have that:D:D:D

Sod the Champions League.. I don't think we can win it... don't want to be fielding weakend teams in the Prem just to progress in the CL.. the Prem should be the only target.

I'd say you've got that sown up, The Arse & Chelski aren't exactly setting things on fire of late, so I'd say the League's Manky U's for the losing.

Perhaps Balotelli will get the same punishment that Neville got - bear in mind that Neville was defending in front of the KOP, but perhaps Balotelli will get more as the PL/FA are clamping down and dishing out stricter punishments:alright:

Ok I've been & seen Schalke 04 a couple of times, but that was with a German friend who's "Konigs Blau" & has been all his life, the local team here is Vfl Osnabrück, so you keep an eye on them & when we go to Holland, the area we stay in is Twente, so it's FC Twente (Steve McClaren did a stint as manager) when we're there, we also enjoy the local brew Grolsch. :D

So what is your determination for "local" - do Bolton, Preston, Blackpool, Bury, Wigan, Liverpool, Everton and the two Manchester sides fall outside of your geographical definition of "local"?

Nowadays with all the motorways travel times are very short to any of those grounds. As a schoolboy half a crown would take me to any of those and pay my entrance - so why not go and see the great players of that era rather than the mediocre bunch from North of the Border. :tongueout:tongueout:tongueout

In the true aspect I'd say your home Town, the place you were born & raised, admittedly if you move away at a very early age & are raised somewhere else I'd think the adoption of that "Local" home Town team could be justified.

I'm a Scouser, Red through & through, but I could just as easily have been a Blue or at a pinch a Rovers (Tranmere), but family ties led to being a Red. The likes of your Mankys City & Utd, Blackburn, Bolton, Blackpool, Stanley ;) & so on are local North West teams but not my home team, so I think the statement should be more about a home team as opposed to local team. :)

They will have their bitch again Mancie - I notice that only DinG says anything about his team, the losers have got nothing they can say about theirs - Rovers in pucker mode and Stanley not paying the players on time.;):D:D

Yep, that's right and if it's a choice between supporting a club from a town with which I have no connections by watching them on TV...or standing on the terraces with my mates and other fellow Accringtonians enjoying the craic while I watch my hometown club I know which I'll go for. No contest!

The first football match I ever saw was a team in Blue & White quarters against one in Red & White stripes.
It was at Ewood Park and my Uncle told me to watch the No 7 in Red & White - Yes, Stanley Matthews playing for Stoke before he went to Blackpool. Didn't encoyrage me to support Rovers though - they had those horrible thick cups to put the Bovril in, quite crude really so I eventually decided on class some 6 or so years later.:D:D

Ha-ah! NOW I understand where it all went wrong. If your Uncle had taken you to Peel Park for your first ever match, things might have been different and you might have been standing on the Clayton End tomorrow. Still...it's not too late... :)

Nah, you know who it was - a good game too, Everton defended well and there was some good football. However, another step nearer the 19th title - need a tissue DinG?
Great win for Stanley as well, maybe the players got their pay before the match:rolleyes: but they are well placed now, let's hope they can keep it up.
Even the scousers came to life - got over the shock yet DinG?
Perhaps we should have more St George's Days;)
Nervous weekend for you Jay, but you can do a lot to crush the Council Tenants ambitions and help DinG's lot - mind you that means you have to win a game :tongueout:tongueout

All I can say is that I hope other Lancashire clubs are as dedicated as Bolton are to the Premiership coming to where it belongs - Lancashire, as a generalisation, in reality The Theatre of Dreams, it's rightful home - at least it has spent more time there than anywhere else.
It is now certainly United's to lose, not for someone else to win it, just as the reverse is true for Rovers, they can't survive unless other clubs lose.;):D:D

Must admit a liking for the "Gold" Barrie, but manners & politeness (yeah I know, an alien concept to some) decreed that as I was in the area, the local brew was to be imbibed, plus the frowns from our Dutch friends would've been far too much to bear.

Also to further pile on insolence "Amstel" being an Amsterdam Beer & the home town of Ajax (presently 2nd in the table & 1 point behind Twente) these bitter rivals whom they have to play twice within a week at the very end of the season 2010-11 in fact the last 2 games (8th May Dutch Cup final & 15th May last game of the season) certainly wouldn't have won friends or influenced people ! ;) :D

Ha ..after all the years of supporting Rovers you should know by now that hope don't mean anything.. a team needs guts (and decent players)..:D... maybe in Rovers case the only "hope" is that the teams around them lose..:D

Watched it on the German telly, as I couldn't get it on the British channels  Schalke just weren't there if it hadn't been for Neuer, the scoreline would've been a damn site higher, even the German commentators highlighted S04's poor organisation at the back & lack of effort up front. Although Manky U weren't outstanding they made more chances & got a result that's just the way of it.

Compared to the way they played against Milan they were bloody awful Dave, as you say but for the goalie it would have been a cricket score, what should have been a great spectacle and an entertaining game was a complete flop, and yes Barrie I did watch it:D:p
