IF they win their game in hand at the cocklepickers they will still be 13 points behind with games running out

This was a game for the taking and weak play again let us down. We’re resting on our laurels all too often, this league isn’t won yet and we’d better start learning to battle on to the bitter end if we want to win out and climb that long ladder up league two.

"weak play" ????????
"resting on our laurels" ?????????????
"Learn to battle on" ??????????????

What the .... are you on ?????????

Was you there to judge this ???????

NO NO NO

Well Me an my family were, along with hundreds of other stanley fans, and your comments are "Bull"muck.

Hereford where playing there world cup final..... They had 12 men, we went down to 10, and before danny was sent off, hereford had got no where near our goal... Then they could see the end of the tunnel and REALLY laid into us.....

We gained a point, they lost 5 today.....

The lads on the pitch after the game were dancing around like we had won, they know we are gonna do it :)

Well played Lads........

have just got back from a cracker of a day out. Edgar St sucks but the Ultras dont. Once again we have absolutely had it today. My voice is broken and so is my wallet. Forget the result becasue Herdford have been goosed today. We have takebn away ther last chance to gain on us and were unlucky to not ge t aklk three points as we deserved for pretty much dominting the game. Highlight of the day? sitting in a posh pub int' middle o nowhere being loud sweary brashy northerners and Mark, Les and Charlie walking in and not expecting us. Posh dudes slightly embarrased eh?

was rather drunk and cold last night so message was poorly typed and my profanity was inexcusable. Well mod'd.

Our car broke down near Wigan and we were waiting for an hour or so in the freezing cold. Good day out though

Re: Today's matches

I take you point whole heartedly Simon, and no I wasn’t there and I envy you and your family that. But I am entitled to express as well as have an opinion.

We had one goal we scored and one they scored for us; needless to say we where two up and should have won and had they not scored an own goal we may well have lost today’s game.

We gave away a penalty, Elliott saved it and then our defence failed to clear it or put it out of play, a needless hand ball took us down to ten men, (which Hereford played with last week and won) and then we failed to defend our half and allowed a competent to get the better of us and equalise.

I might not go or get to every match Simon but I love this team as much as you do, I thought we where complacent today. I do believe we will win out comfortably but like I’ve said, I don’t like dramatic endings. :)

Put yer handbags away ladies.

We went into the biggest game of the season with a less than full strength squad and came out of it with a hard fought pont - perhaps undeserved; it doesnt matter. In my opinion we were hard done by, but it could have been worse, right?
Let's look forward, not backwards - that's the Stanley way :D

Keep the faith people!

Re: Today's matches

As has happened before, we have held on & it was more a loss to Hereford than a point gained for them. The rest of the results have favoured us again so no real harm done to put us off course. & ten Men still couldn't take us despite officialdom gone mad again- Danny off for ball to hand & SIX mins extra! We are still on course & perhaps the hardest of our run ins played with no major damage to getting the title. Come on Danny-get in that office at 2BR & tell em Stanley are the only team worthy of commentating on for the rest of this season-full & live on!!!!

Edited for for foul language. Please read the T&Cs if you are confused.

How can people say that we have been disapointing today??
If someone offered me a draw at the start of the game i would have taken it.

do people not realize that we are still 16 points clear and another game gone,
thats another game hereford cant win to win the league

Agree with simon that the sending off was harsh and no doubt about it changing the game

still 16 points clear and a game less to go :D

I feel so sorry for Danny Ventre who's done so well for us since he's been drafted in after spending much of the season on the bench, just hope the sending off doesn't rock his confidence. Couldn't get there yesterday and listening to the 2nd half commentary on the radion was agony but at the end of the day it took us playing with 10 men for half an hour, them getting a penalty and the ref playing 6 minutes added on time for them to draw with us. Better result for us than for them, they really had to win to keep any hope of catching us. Kep the faith

There are a couple of quite good photos on a Hereford forum thread of the handball incident. Looks like the ref didn't have much choice, worth a look.

I'm very disappointed about the sending off, the whole concept of sending a player off for a handball baffles me , let alone awarding a penalty as well!!
What next, booking players for being caught offside?
It's stupid, players should only be sent off for violent conduct - the rulemakers are there to keep the players safe and to keep the game fair...what aspect of handball is in breach of that; enough to send the player off aswell as awarding a penalty?!
i think not

Intesting pics but dont really show the true picture. I saw the incident again on sky sports nes the ball was thumped at Ventre and you could tell if it struck him on the chest or bicep. I think 2,000 folk behind the goal made the refs decision for him watchin it in real time on tv i just couldn't see how he could be sure. I'd be pretty p'd off if we weren't 16 points clear!!

I'm not saying it shouldn't go unpunished; the penalty was enough - there was no reason whatsoever to send Ventre off.

Re: Today's matches

As a Hereford fan, this thread makes a fascinating read! Some facts for some of you who weren't at the game:-

1. You are 16 points clear of your nearest rivals. Our Manager conceded that if we didn't beat you yesterday that the title was all but won. Yes it is a nerve wracking run in but the way that some of you are 'talking' you would think that you are facing relegation not promotion. The championship is yours for the taking - for goodness sake enjoy your best season in years!!

2. There are often two sides to any controversial decision - that's often what makes football such a talking point. The sending off of Ventri (I hope I have spelt this correctly) was certainly pivotal in the game. CHck out the photon on our fans forum and judge for yourself.

3. The six minutes added on were for injuries to your players and some of the actions of your bench who twice held up play by calling for a substitution and not making it.

4. Your keeper was outstanding - one penalty save and two one handed saves, one when he was diving the wrong way immediately spring to mind. And this was despite him taking a knock earlier in the game.

5. You looked very lively up front - some very neat interplay. It makes a change for us Hereford fans to see Brown stay on his feet when a ball came his way rather than going to going to ground almost every time which he did when he was with us.

6. We could and should have won this game although having gone two nil down we looked dead and buried. Some match facts for you from the Non-League paper:-
Shots on target - Hereford 11 Accy 2
Shots off target - Hereford 4 Accy 4
Corners - Hereford 11 Accy 7
Fouls conceded - Hereford 11 Accy 20

We had a goal disallowed, at least one cleared off the line, two great saves by your keeper and a second penalty appeal turned down.
Need I say more!

7. All credit to your fans who made the long trip and got behind your team. I suspect that there may be a shortage of loo rolls in your area over the next few days, though.

8. Coleman upset a lot of people with his antics such as time wasting during the game and taunting the Hereford fans at the end of the game. It is a shame that someone who has achieved so much this season should resort to this.

Finally, it will be great to see such a 'famous old name' as 5 Live put it go back into the football league. I just hope that you have a better pre-season next season than you did this one!

Now anyone who knows me will understand that this is somewhat out of character (posting on here in order to get involved in an argument - my name isn't Cottier!!!!) but I am taking exception to 1 of the points made above. Just 1 mind you.

About Coley's conduct. We all know what he's like!!! He's passionate and involved in the game 110%. Sometimes he will admit he goes too far. But I would like to draw people's attention to what happened at the full time whistle.

Firstly, the stadium announcer saying "enjoy your trip back to Merseyside" and having a good laugh. Not what anyone who's travelled from ACCY needs to hear. Then, during the post-match press conference, Coley was being heckled and frankly abused by a small group of Hereford fans. He handled it fairly graciously, but then had to listen to a member of the Hereford press accuse Stanley's players of trying to start fights with Hereford supporters! When they were warming down. On the pitch!!!!!!!!!!

Until the 80th minute or so I was pleased to be at Edgar St. But for the remaining 10 and post-match period I actually felt physically threatened both whilst commentating out the match and waiting for interviews. And it isn't like I'm an elderly, easily-frightened sort of fellow...

By no means am I casting any aspersions on Hereford supporters in general. I simply wish to make the point that this "taunting" issue is a two way street, and that a small minority of Bulls fans were as guilty as any of those who had travelled from Accrington, player, staff or supporter.

Perhaps the magnitude of the occasion and disappointment at dropping points affected my reaction, but I am certain that no away manager would tolerate the abuse that Coley and his players got if they received it at the Interlink.

Sorry to ramble, I will now shut up...

Well, having read through the forum and viewed the pictures, the decision against Danny Ventre should be appealed as the rules I believe state that the hand must go to ball to be handball not blasted at the hand from 6ft as someone kindly put it. Neither of his hands were raised in the pictures - seems he was in the wrong place at the wrong time and the ref bottled it from the baying crowd behind. Anyway, who cares, like most people I would have taken a draw before kick off - yes I am disappointed that was the end result after being 2-0 up - but as others have said, 7 points from 3 away games has got to be a decent return. Bring on Stevenage and Southport next week (see you all there). Get behind the team at the IES and lets not forget, at least we have Leam Richardson returning to replace Danny if we cannot appeal. BTW how many games is Danny banned for 1 or 3?

:D Had a quick look at the photos re Danny on the Hereford side. Their main pic shows Rob had the shot covered so clear goal? I think not, & ball blasted for short range-rules state clearly ball to hand not the other way round. Apparently the Bulls fans were baying for penalties earlier & seems like another duped ref-but whats new for us? as said before 30 mins for playing ten men-a dodgy penalty & a sending off that should be appealed-from a team apparently challenging for the league title & six extra minutes & still only drew--Your loss not ours, we played as we have done to the final whistle, defended extremely well & showed why we are top of the league & going up! Maybe we will get some rowdy fans from Div 2 to contend with so maybe we owe the bulls a vote of thanks for at least preparing us in handling them! Oh & Simes, what hospital do we send the pansies too for the guy who called Joanne?

Correct. There are some decent Hereford fans who maintain a competitive spirit and who choose to focus on the 'positives' to take from the game (in this case- accrington were somehow prevented from taking all 3 points!). However IMO, on this occasion an overwhelming majority of hereford fans & STAFF, allowed their 'near-defeat' to get the better of them, particularly the STAFF who should be embarrassed after the way they behaved....BEFORE the game, as well as after!

Accrington gaining automatic promotion to the FL is of course my main concern.....my second being that Hereford United DO NOT move up into league two. I hope they're playing in the conference for a very long time to come.

Just to make some of you feel a little bit better, I had a lovely phone call from a lady at Hereford FC yesterday morning. She wanted to know when I was next popping by Edgar Street in order to pick up the twenty quid prize money for the prediction quiz that was running in the bar before the game. I told her it was unlikely I would be there for a while and asked her if she could mail it to my Accy address. Her obvious enthusiasm waned somewhat. Never mind - I shall be eagerly awaiting the cheque in the post.
