another one of Coleys' missions completed, he never lets one go when he tries to sign em.

I thought it was that Gav Cowan who signed for Grays til I read that he hadn't played for Forest, I was gonna look it up tonight and then post whether he was coming! Slow down Coley let the rumour mill start first!

Bradford get rid of lard-arse..
Wednesday, October 25th, 2006
Alan Rogers, the self-confessed Premiership standard left back, has been dumped by Bradford City to free up some cash to secure other players on a contract - which is quite amusing. The chubby Scouser was on a week to week contract having been released by Forest having contributed ****** all since Kinnear signed him for his second Forest spell, including being banned from the dressing room!
Colin Todd, the Bantams manager, claims to be disappointed to not be able to retain the services of Rogers, but ultimately it goes to show that the man who thought he was ‘too big’ for Stoke not that long ago when we were trying to offload him perhaps has a few ideas above his station right now - as he now finds himself without work.
It will be interesting to see if and when another team offers him an opportunity, and what level they are at - certainly rumours of dressing room unrest, rifts and bad influence didn’t endear him to Forest in his second spell with us - but ultimately it was his shamefully poor performances on the pitch that banged the nails into the coffin of his Forest career - regardless of whatever conspiracy theories he tried to propagate around the press upon his departure from Forest.

Must be a bit of history here....

Somebody tell me if i'm wrong but Rogers has just become the first Accrington player ever to have commanded a £2 million pound transfer fee.

He cost Forest that when he joined from Tranmere in 1997.

2 million pound player ten years ago

Still, more bodies about the place can only be a good thing at the moment.

OMG.... last time I saw a review like that about a player it was concerning the dread J Jackson and it proved to be just about as accurate a critique' as you could get....please god not again

So he'll be 4 times better than Doherty?

just to cheer this thread up a bit after the last couple of posts (Oggy is feeling a bit fruity tonight), LET report that Coley is close to tying up a deal to sign Mannix on a permanent deal. It goes on to say that the 24 year old has had five operations on a troublesome knee.

So how is five operations on a troublesome knee cheering this thread up?

His nickname at Forest was "Tank" apparently:

Here's an explanation from the Guardian:

http://football.guardian.co.uk/Colum...197194,00.html

"And it would be nice to think that the left-back Alan Rogers knows what an honour is accorded him in the shout of "Come on, Tank!" as he races up the touchline with the ball at his feet, giving the same impression of power and resolution that originally prompted the fans to bestow the nickname on Peter Hindley, the right-back of Johnny Carey's lovely side almost 40 years ago. "

Not sure if that really helps.

It was John Bray, Dave Whelan's Rovers partner at full back who was nick-named "Tank" - built like a brick ****house.

Congratulations on buying the most useless, self opinionated, trouble making lump of lard ever to wear the forest shirt !- The quote Jeff posted was not far of the mark (although that'd be complimentary from our point of view!! )
The (£2m) Rogers of 10 years ago was a great player, the Mk 2 version - well all i can say is get to the ground early before he buys all the pies!! "tank" was his original nickname - this time round it was PODGERS (plus some unrepeatable ones lol)
Forest actually paid off the remainder of his contract as he was so disruptive / useless!! At one stage he went to Stoke but when he was told they wanted him to have a trial he sat on the bonnet of his car sulking & asking "don't they know who I am?"
He was also accused by the Forest Manager at the time (Megson) of giving our line up & tactics to opposition managers.
All in all you're more than welcome to him - call it our revenge for that cup result :rofl38:

Doesn't sound too good does it - I'm really hoping its just sour grapes from Forest Forever but I have a funny feeling it isn't. I'll save judgement till I've seen him play and keep me fingers crossed we haven't landed ourselves with another liability as we did with a certain Mr Justin Jackson.

I like the bit about 'do you know who I am'. Sounds like he's been brought down a peg or two though if he has signed for us after not wanting to even train at Stoke................

Good luck Alan. Our new rough diamond

Re: New signing.. Left back

Since his £2M move from Tranmere to Forst 10 years ago he was also bought by (I think Mickey Adams) when he was at Leicester for decent money. Looks like everytime time he's gone to a club the manager has got the sack shortly after.........not that I'm saying it's as a result of his signing! but watch out Coley !! :)

Couldn't have been that bad for Forest to buy him back again could he??

Heard he was on about £10,000 a week at Forest and would have been on about that if not more at Leicester in the Premiership! He didn't play more than a handful of games for Forest for the last 2 years of his contract on was training with a number of clubs (including Stanley) during that time due to a clash with Megson. He obviously doesn't need the money so let's home he's here to enjoy his football...........and a few pies!

They do say "you should never go back."

As I understand it the pay of Stanley players has a strong performance related element.

He may have been well paid in the past but with five or six years of his playing career left you'd think he'd have every incentive to do well and get back up the Leagues.

Actually I think I mainly remember Alan Rogers playing on the left side of midfield.

He played in a few Championship games I had an interest in and he was always one to watch out for.

Good signing IMHO. Will bring much needed league experience. I don't think his attitude will be a problem - JC will bring the best out of him.

Forest gave him a trial prior to re-signing him , during that time he didn't do too badly & we gave him a nice fat contract & he almost immediately stopped trying! (so don't be surprised if he looks ok the first few games!)
After he was dropped he decided he didn't want to try to find a new club & would just pick up his wages and give nothing in return - He was another given a ridiculously long & overpaid contract by Joe Kinnear.
His behaviour was such that Forest ended up banning him from entering the ground & sent him on "gardening leave" - eventually paying off his contract just to get rid!

BTW sorry "Accymad" but it really isn't sour grapes, we've never been so happy to see the back of a player!!

Who knows? maybe his "rest" has changed his attitude - Rogers used to be an excellent hard tackling defender, read the game well & was great going forward. If you get him you're going to be very happy - I just hope you don't get the lazy dough boy we got second time around!!

Good luck for the rest of the season & enjoy your easy three points next week!
