Never mind his name. You'll spot him. He's the one with "Souvenir of Spain" on his shirt.

I wonder if he can play in the net aswell

Re: New central defender

Jimbo I never said we wouldn't sign anyone I just thought hoped we hadn't given up cos we'd missed out on all our targets and went on holiday!

Glad he's a defender. I was worried with all that crap about Donaldson and strikers from Scotland cos it's at the beck were our problems are. Hopefully he's a foreighn lad who actually gets a game and not just here to warm the bench like Julian was. Still think we should've kept him.

Dosen't actually say they have signed him.He could well have 'hitched' a ride back to visit an elderly aunt in Dingleland.

Jiffy Bag how did you miss predicting this one, have your sources failed you?

Re: New central defender

Just been up to the ground watching the lads train - really brought in the crowds, must've been all of a dozen people there! Not much to report really, the new lad looks good from what we saw, tall and strong looking. Good to see Cav training, not fully with the rest of the lads but still it looks like he's almost there.
Also nice to see Leighton McGivern & Danny Ventre making tentative steps on to the pitch, poor Leighton at one point looked like a toddler learning to kick a ball for the first time. No sign of Bavs, Fearo was in the nets - he did ok as well.

Paper Boy 27-01-2007 16:20

Re: New central defender

Dunbavin was there, but just sat in the stands. I saw McGivern, Ventre and him having a stroll in their tracksuits on my way to the ground. McGivern also tried to jog at one stage, but had a very bad limp and gave up after about five strides, so I can't see us playing him for a long time yet.

The only other interesting thing about this morning was watching Toddy try to explain what the next training drill was to the new bloke. It was a case of talking slowly and loud in pigeon English which always seems to help!

shakermaker 27-01-2007 16:41

Re: New central defender

Yea, I was told afterwards that Bavs was there but was in physio most of the time. Don't know why Toddy was talking like that to the new lad, according to Eric he is fluent in three other languages apart from his own, English, French & Spanish.

Taken from Sky Sports Website:-

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman is on the brink of signing Portuguese defender Mauro Silva Almeida, as they look to safeguard their Football League status.
The League Two strugglers have returned from their training session in Spain with former Porto centre-back Almeida in tow.
Stanley do not return to action until 3rd February when Chester City are the visitors to The Fraser Eagle Stadium.
And a club spokesman has come out to clarify the situation, as it seems a mere matter of time before Almeida completes a move.
"The team only got back from Spain last night. He is just on trial at the moment but he is going to sign soon," a club spokesman revealed. Stanley are currently 18th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone though, and will hope Almeida's experience can help them preserve their League status.

Must admit He did look strong in Training this morning.

Maybe Toddy was translating from Scouse into English ;) .

Did you notice the plane flying over during the training session? Spying on the Stanley of course !!!

Thanks for the all info. The new hombre sounds promising. Pity about McGivern though. I was hoping he'd recover quicker, as I reckon he'd make a real difference. No sign of Boco?

Re: New central defender

Oh aye, Rommy was there. Worryingly though, in the last bit of their training when all the squad had to take shots on goal and once they had scored do a couple of laps of the pitch, the last two to score (and who were out there on their own for quite a while after the others had finished) were Rommy & David Brown, they both seemed to be struggling to find the net :)

Who have we signed Jimbo ?

No one here knows if we've signed him or not yet, so a little less sarcasm is in order I think!

There's a typo on t'fishy site; it's really Mauro Alexandre da Silva Almeida; five words not four! But most people seem just to call him Mauro Almeida.

You might not be calling him anything. He hasn't signed yet.

They've probably offered him £25 a week and a YTS placement at EW Cartons. ;)

Re: New central defender

On fishy site now - he's officially signed - just waiting for his international clearance now and could be playing tomorrow for reserves against Oldham and/or against Chester on Saturday :)

Martin Fearon was in the nets - but they just seemed to prefer to put it wide or into the side netting :)

Any great saves? it just worries me horribly that our no.2 keeper is so small.

If the new defender plays on Saturday, who is going to be dropped to make way for him ?

AccyMad 30-01-2007 13:00

Re: New central defender

Fearo did ok Redraine, nothing spectacular that I saw and I still don't think he's quite ready to face the Andy Bishops or Jermaine Easters of this league so just hope that Coley's talk of bringing in another keeper this week materialises and that Bavs is fully fit this weekend.
