Superb Facilities - No Crowd!
After attending last night's game it occurred to me that maybe we're getting things out of perspective on here. Darlington's stadium was absolutley magnificent: 27,000 seats, giant screen showing action replays immediatley, plentiful bars and food counters under the stands; all this and one very big roof covering it all.
Darlo are currently 8th. in the league and on the verge of the play offs and yet the attendance last night was 2790. I think it goes to show that the state of the facilities does not automatically guarantee you support. The home fans must be even more frustrated than we are by their town's apathy towards the team. They must have posted a loss for last night's fixture with the amount of security and admin staff employed. It just goes to show that, whilst it would be more comfortable for the current supporters of Stanley, stadium development may not produce the result we all believe it will. I must say that it has made me side with Eric's cautious policy even more than previously. The last thing we want is to create a white elephant with no atmosphere and strangle the club with debt. I've got to say though, the roof enabled the Accy fans to create a brilliant atmosphere. I'm told the roof is on the agenda for this month's Hyndburn Borough Council Planning Committee, and once it's rubber stamped it will be up three weeks later!!! Anyone rushing to the bookies to put a wager on it? |

Re: Superb Facilities - No Crowd!
as long as they dont put seats in it.last nights match at lille proves its not terracing thats the problem its the fencing and total mismanagement by the authorities they blamed terracing to deflect the blame of bumbling management and total lack of respect of the average football supporte ..seating was just another way clubs could charge more money and rip the fan off.19 years ago if you told the average fan it would cost 25-30 squid to attend a match they would have laughed their socks off

A few of us were talking to a Darlington director in one of the bars before the game and he said it costs them £70000 a week, just to run the club.
