Re: Home Town Team ?
I was born in Bury but now live in Shropshire. My younger daughter saw the milk advert in 1990 and I foolishly offered to take her to an away match when they played somewhere locally. We then saw a big win at Newtown and have been hooked ever since. She celebrated her 13th birthday with a home draw against Droylsden. Nowadays I often pick up my brother in Bury on the way.
I still get up to the FES as often as I can and fit in as many away matches as possible. My daughter also fits in as many matches as possible when she's not playing rugby or selected for British World Cup bobsleigh team. |

Whoops, it would appear that things are to remain a bit barren on the turf for another week or so. I’m not taking the piddle Dave; “honest” but why do you come to FES on Saturday? It won’t cost you ou’t and Mel will buy us a pint. Look at it as a bit of light relief, bring the Girl and have a cracking day out in Accrington. :) |

My daughter said tonight she might go because she thinks it will be a change to watch lower league football, does she mean she wants another season ticket at the Turf next season :D |

Re: Home Town Team ?
Sorry chaps,
It's nice to be all nostalgic and tell everyone about the good ol' days when your dad used to take you to Stanley but in my case, that 'd be bullpoo 'cause my dad hated football. But that's ok - he used to take me all over the north watching F1 stock car racing instead. 20 Chevy 454 powered metal chariots tearing round a shale mudbath - definately as exciting as Mullin heading a winner in the last seconds of injury time!!! I wasn't born in Accy either, Queens Park Hospital in Blackburn I'm afraid. I do call Accy my home town though as I've lived here since 1976 and went to Hollins. I've only been watching Stanley since their last season in the unibond but what counts is that I'm hooked now. Stanley 'till I die!!! :D |
Re: Home Town Team ?
Well I have to confess that I have no blood ties at all to Lancashire (apart from marrying my wife who was born in Bury, and living for 10 years in Manchester).
I was born in London (Hammersmith - nearest team QPR) but at primary school, we all had to follow a football team. I didn't know many teams then - most of my mates liked Man Utd or Spurs (the usual cr*p), but I selected Aston Villa, because I liked the name !!! :D I was never a Villa supporter of course, and have never seen them play - but my dad used to take me to matches at Fulham and Chelsea in the early 1960's - and my first ever match was at Craven Cottage in 1963 when West Brom beat Fulham 2-1. What a different atmosphere then to today's Premiership rubbish ! In those days, all the fans mixed, wore rosettes and waved rattles, and there was never any trouble at matches.:) I do remember reading and hearing about Stanley at the time of their demise and thinking how sad it was - but from about 1970, I lost interest in football (when I was living in Shropshire) and the interest did not return till last season (after making moves to Manchester, Norfolk - 7 years there - and finally to Berkshire). I started supporting Stanley last season, thinking how brilliant it would be if they got back into the League, and was so excited when I came to the Crown ground for the first time - and also saw the old Peel Park after the match. That day at Woking last year is one I will never ever forget !!! :D :D :D Since then, I have been hooked and take a lot of stick at work as well as on other clubs forums. I work in London and it is not easy to get to home games, but have seen Stanley this season at Alsager (charity match), Chester, Watford, Torquay, Bristol Rovers, Wycombe Wanderers, Barnet and Swindon Town. We sponsor Andy Tretton's home kit (looks as if it will be unworn this season too ! ;) ) and have joined the OSC, and I'm looking forward to the games at Walsall and MK Dons, where I hope to see Stanley pull off a couple of wins ! :D I do have a soft spot for Walsall and Torquay, and also go to games at Forest Green Rovers (very friendly club - like Stanley in many ways), but Stanley will always be my number one team, whatever league we play in and wherever we are living. GO STANLEY GO !!!! :not_ripe: :Banane35: :not_ripe: |
Re: Home Town Team ?
I was born in Burnley (sorry) but moved to Accy when I was about 6. Didn't watch football until I turned 36 (I'm now 40). Since then I have become addicted to the home matches and have passed on my addiction to my daughter (season ticket holder) ad my son.
We'll all be absolutely gutted IF we go down and elated if we stay up. Come on the reds!! |
