Charity walk to rochdale
Right this year the travel to Rochdale takes on another just as interesting format as the buses last year, the ultras are looking into organising a charity walk to Rochdale for our away game later in the season, theres plenty of time to organise it from now till then.
What we are initially looking for are a list of people who will be interested, the walk is about 15/16 miles as a rough estimate this means it will be an early start for anybody who wants to get involved, looking to get to Rochdale for around 2pm to have a few well earned drinks. We are looking into donating all the money raised into two half's with one half going to a local charity and the other going to a larger national charity, although at this moment the charity's are undecided we will be looking for one where the money actually means something to the cause its for, (any suggestions are welcome) As you can tell there is still a lot to organise but hopefully with the right contributions and advice we will make this a huge success both for raising loads of money for the charity's as well as raising the profile of the club and the ultras in a positive light in the local media (would love to have someone from local radio/paper who would want to participate and maybe document the walk?) So who's up for it? |
Re: Charity walk to rochdale
I once did a walk from the Crown Ground to Bamber Bridge and I swore I would never do it again - I suffered, a lot !!! I will speak to Guy and see, put me down as a maybe, perhaps.

Re: Charity walk to rochdale
I work for a local charity JT, it's called Sense North and we have a residential home for 5 deafblind people in Accrington. At the moment we are trying to raise money to improve the garden at the home, we've planned a fund raising nightfor later in the year but if you choose us, all donations would be more than welcome:) plus you'd be able to come & see where your money has gone to

Re: Charity walk to rochdale
I will of course give the walk plenty of air time on the show(Live link up ETC), If we get more than 2 local charity's then I think we (Ultras/OSC) should do A couple of Bucket collections at selected Home games?
Just a thought Loweiy |
Re: Charity walk to rochdale
Go on I'll do it get some sponsorship forms sorted I'm sure everyone at work would like to see me in pain.

Re: Charity walk to rochdale
Not being in Accrington and District I’m not really aware of any local charities, but I like to propose the Lancashire Air Ambulance as one possibility.
Walking 15/16 miles? I’m 47 and idle. I normally walk in the lakes, climbing above the 2000 ft mark and would cover anything between 6 and 12 miles with large pack. So I would imagine I could manage this on the straight. What is being considered for transport back to FES? If I don’t do the walk, I’ll certainly provide ground transport along the route for the injured and old farts who give way, I’d also agree to acting as a water carrier should it be required. This is a good idea Mr Timmings. |

Re: Charity walk to rochdale
erm, sorry I'll have to be the designated lazy git in the car with me bad ankle and all that! its all Loweiys fault.
I'll try to get something sorted regarding transport back as well, but that will be nearer the time. Good shout on the local charities angle as well. Its something that I wanted to do with the OSC but was met with a deafening and confused silence when I mooted the idea. Possible idea for the local charity would be to pick whatever the Mayors charity is this year (new mayor) as that would then get the backing of a few local dignitaries who could be shamed to putting their hand in their pockets. Mercenary but I like it! |
Re: Charity walk to rochdale
ooo looks like the ball is starting to roll with the ideas, keep up with the ideas and we can then get a meeting sorted asap to discuss the finer points :)

Re: Charity walk to rochdale
Is there a particular route from Accrington to Rochdale? How about cycle ride instead of a walk would definately be up for that or do both different set off times? Charity for consideration East Lancs Hospice also think the Sense North is a very worthwhile charity as well :)
