When Ball's Go Out

:)Would'nt you have thought that someone would have had at least 2 spare balls put in the winniehill stand in case the match ball went over ,then the match could carrie on in stead of waiting for the fourth offical to throw one back in to play!! just a thought:)

that is simply because if it isn't the match ball thrown back into play then it has to come from the fourth official so that he can check it's pumped up correctly

Re: When Ball's Go Out

Yes, we as Fourth Officials have to be very exact in our pumping. This determines whether we kick or throw a ball on to the pitch.People don't seem to be aware as to how vital we are !!!!!!! Oh, and you need to be technically minded to operate that electronic board, and being able to tell the time helps greatly.......

I don't know why we don't do this, I watched Liverpool last night and the ballboys each had a football to throw to the players when the one on the pitch went out of play.

Probably because we haven't got any ballboys

Re: When Ball's Go Out

There was one particular incident last Friday night which highlighted the problem where the ball went out for a goal kick in front of the Clayton End and the ball ended up in front of the liner who just ignored the ball, and the Macc goalie then had too retrieve the ball and probably wasted about a minute (which may not have been a bad thing?)but if the boot was on the other foot so too speak and we had needed a goal we would have been cursing ourselves.

its great when we are ahead, but i have seen it deflate our pressure when we have been chasing games.
Peterborough this season, used the situation to time waste.

Re: When Ball's Go Out

Where do we start on this one??

Because nobody has atcually stated the facts:

1stly the referee is responsible for checking & approving the match/ balls.

2ndly unless both sides managers give approval for "multi ball ( ie ball boys with balls) only the 4th official is allowed to put a replacement ball on, on a signal from the ref.

3rdly At the FES due to restrictions of the ground, its not practical for our ball boys to be "pitch side" to use the "multi ball" option

Our Ball Boys do a fantastic job. As a club we try to be fair and allow the 4th offical to send on spare balls.

We have agreed to "multi ball" on numerous occasions in the Conference away from home.( Woking 3 years ago is the prime example) When it suits the home side to have the balls quickly its always there, however if they go in front the balls are slowly returned to reduce oppotunities to the away side. Sportsmanship at its worst!!:(

Re: When Ball's Go Out

We're not talking multi balls with ballboys just a couple of balls ready for play in the cowshed.

Re: When Ball's Go Out

Thats the issue!!

If you've got pre approved balls on the half way line on the Whinney hill, you'll also need a system for balls over the Coppice Wall and the Main Stand.

Its either "multi ball" on all 4 sides or nothing!!:)
