I think we sold him to Ipswich for £250,000 and Ipswich have sold him for an undisclosed fee, reported to be £200,000, so I don't think there will be a sell on fee when Ipswich sold him for less than what they paid us for him.

"Anorak (Ipswich): There is a sell on clause in Roberts contract that will see Accrington Stanley receive 50% of any fee that Town receive should he be sold at a later date. Accrington will also receive extra money should Town gain promotion. Town paid an initial £50,000 to take Roberts on loan back in October, and paid around £200,000 to secure his services permanently this week. (2007-01-04)"

Pride of Anglia - Ipswich Town Football Club

"Gary Roberts has completed his move to Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee, however, Accrington Stanley have confirmed they have a sell on clause and the fee will increase should Ipswich win promotion."

BBC - Lancashire - Sport - Transfer news

The first source suggests that the sell-on clause of 50% of any fee if he were sold, not the additional fee ... so maybe there's hope for a windfall yet ;)

Re: sell on fee

Observer states any fee over £220k,

therefore I think that Ipswich probably kept the fee below what they maybe would've expected.

I also think that we would've had the same deal in place on the Craney transfer to Swansea as they were both conducted at roughly the same time. If that were the case then Craneys' real transfer value would've been around £170,000 - which is not much more than I was led to believe Peterborough had offered for him.
