I recall going there for a F.A. Cup match in the 70's. Scary place  |
Re: Today's match at Grimsby
I had a really good day today, except for coming back to where I'd left my car in Accrington to find it had a flat tyre. :(
Anyway, I think the team responded in the right way to the week's events. Every player gave everything they had and I think we just about edged it in the second half. There was a good reaction from the players at the end to the travelling fans, which really showed that we're all together at this time. It'd be a shame if a few misguided people undid that camaraderie on Monday. By the way Haggis, were you wearing a yellow coat at today's game? If so, then i was sat right behind you. ;) |

Had large blue bag for helmet. Was sat between Redash and Wynonie in first half and to the right of Wynonie in the second half. My photo is on profile any way. |

Probably...four pints of real ale brewed on the premises at Willy's Bar, followed by a couple more celebratory pints on the way home does tend to take its toll! ;) |
Re: Today's match at Grimsby
I don't think it was you then.....lol
The bloke in front of me looked familiar, but I couldn't think why. Edit: Just had a look at your picture and it wasn't you....lol |

Quoted from Marinerz93Yeah, I read that! I assumed KP was their photographer and if he was sat near the corner flag he was seriously in danger from some of our shooting. Perhaps that's what he meant..... |
Re: Today's match at Grimsby
Many thanks to our correspondents who ventured to Grimsby and risked falling off the edge of the known world.
Now that you're back, I trust that all 88 of you [allegedly] have thrown off the smell of fish or at least neutralised it by visiting either (a) your local fishmonger, or (b) your nearest Public Convenience. Of course it's great news that Stanley are staying up. So perhaps ASFC's executive decision to play the best possible team at Grimsby was correct. Based on the reasons for that decision we might imagine that Easter Monday's home game against Chester should, then, be an occasion for celebration and for Eric and Rob to relax. A memo will perhaps have been despatched to Mssrs Coleman & Bell to the effect that no player who might be described as 'controversial' need be included in the team. If only. Unfortunately, other sides in the relegation battle might successfully argue that Stanley deliberately fielded a weakened side! Yer do yer best . . . . |
Re: Today's match at Grimsby
Mr Morton! How the devil are you, sir? Nice to see you sharing your thoughts with us on Accyweb again. Here's hoping that you will soon be venturing to the FES (or whatever they're planning to call it) in the not-too-distant future!

Just to clarify for Mariner's benefit, most football grounds in the 70's were scary places :D |

Re: Today's match at Grimsby
The atmosphere today was really dictated by the way Accrington started the game.If it had not been for Henderson we would have been 3 down in the first 20 minutes.Town were sluggish throughout the match and therefore the atmosphere reflected this (anxious, frustrated) and above all seeing our boys 2nd best to a very well organised Accrington Stanley did allow fans to enjoy proceedings.
What concerns me now is that this result secures Stanleys league status so will they be as committed on Monday against you know who!!!!. A BIG CHANCE GONE.:)they better be:D:) |
